Office Chair Fixed Position

Admin October 09, 2026

The method for fixing the position of an office chair mainly depends on the design type of its recline function. Here are the common operations and troubleshooting steps:

I. Fixing the Position Based on Chair Type

  1. Handle/Lever Lock (Most Common) The adjustment handle is usually located on the right side beneath the seat and is made of plastic or metal. After sitting firmly, pull the handle backward (or upward) while slowly leaning back with your back. When you reach the desired angle, release the handle. A 'click' sound indicates successful locking. To return to an upright sitting position, pull the handle again, lean forward or sit up straight naturally, and the chair back will automatically rebound.

  2. Knob Adjustment System (Common in Ergonomic Chairs)

    • Tension Adjustment: The knob is located near the center of the seat bottom close to the support column. Turning it clockwise increases the recline resistance (more strenuous), while turning it counterclockwise decreases the resistance (easier). Adjust the gear position according to your weight and preference.
    • Locking Function: Some knobs need to be rotated to a specific position to lock the angle, or use the method of 'pulling out the knob to adjust the angle and then pressing it down to lock'. Refer to the product manual for specific operations.
    • Universal Knob: Most office chairs have a round/oval knob on the right side beneath the seat. Turning it counterclockwise unlocks the recline angle, and after adjustment, turning it clockwise tightens it to fix the position. Some knobs can simultaneously adjust the recline resistance.
  3. Push-Pull Button Type The button may be set independently or integrated beside the handle. Pulling the button outward unlocks the recline function, allowing the chair back to lean back. After adjusting to the desired angle, pressing the button inward locks the current angle.

II. Troubleshooting and Solutions

If the chair cannot be fixed or automatically rebounds, follow these steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Check Connections with Slight Shaking: If the chair shakes slightly after locking, the connections may be loose. Check the screws and bolts at the joints between the seat bottom and the base, and between the armrests and the seat. Tighten them one by one with a screwdriver.
  2. Complete Inability to Lock or Automatic Rebound:
    • Check the Locking Mechanism: Ensure that the handle or lever is fully returned to its original position. Operate it several times repeatedly to ensure smooth movement and avoid mechanism jamming.
    • Observe the Metal Catch: Check whether there are foreign objects jamming or deformation and damage in the metal catch and other parts of the locking device. Clean the foreign objects or replace the damaged parts.
    • Gas Cylinder Problem: If the chair uses a gas cylinder and shows slow sinking or inability to lock, the gas cylinder's sealing performance may have decreased. Contact a professional for repair or replacement.
