Office Chair Fixed Backrest

Admin October 11, 2026

The methods for fixing the backrest of an office chair vary depending on the type of chair. Here are the common types and their operating methods:

Knob-type Fixing Such chairs are usually equipped with a round knob under the seat or on the side. The core principle is to achieve backrest locking by adjusting the resistance. When operating, first adjust the backrest to the desired angle, and then rotate the knob clockwise. During this process, you will feel the resistance of the backrest gradually increasing. When the resistance is sufficient to support the pressure on the back, the locking is complete. To unlock, rotate the knob counterclockwise to reduce the resistance. Note: The rotation force should be moderate. Excessive force may damage the knob or cause the adjustment mechanism to jam. If the backrest still cannot be fixed after rotation, it may be due to gear wear inside the knob, and you need to contact after-sales service for repair.

Lever-type Fixing The lever is generally located under the side armrest of the chair or at the front edge of the seat. It achieves angle locking through mechanical catches. When operating, first find the lever marked with words like 'Lock' or 'Fix', and move it to the corresponding marked position. At this time, the backrest will not be able to swing freely. Some high-end models of levers may integrate multi-position adjustment functions, allowing users to select different tilt angles and lock them according to their needs. Key Point: The lever needs to be moved fully into place. A 'click' sound indicates that the catch has fully engaged. If the lever is loose or cannot be locked, it may be due to a failed internal spring, and the parts need to be replaced.

Button-type Fixing Commonly found in pneumatic lift computer chairs, the locking mechanism is usually hidden at the connection between the backrest and the seat. When operating, first adjust the backrest to the desired position, and then press the hidden button (some models may require leaning back slightly on the backrest simultaneously). A 'click' sound indicates successful locking. To unlock, press the button repeatedly to restore free adjustment. Precautions: The button needs to be pressed all the way down to avoid locking failure due to poor contact. If the button does not respond, it may be due to air leakage in the internal gas rod or damage to the button spring, and professional personnel are required for maintenance.

General Recommendations:

  1. Before adjustment, ensure that the chair is placed on a flat surface to avoid mechanism jamming due to tilting.
  2. Regularly clean the adjustment parts (such as the gaps in the knob and the track of the lever) to prevent dust from affecting sensitivity.
  3. If the chair has not been used for a long time, operate it slowly during the first adjustment to avoid sudden breakage due to part aging.
