Office Chair Five-Star Base Breakage

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair breakage mainly involves the fracture of the five-star base component of swivel office chairs.

During inspections by the State Administration for Market Regulation, it was found that the five-star bases of some office chairs were directly crushed by testing equipment during base static load tests. As a crucial load-bearing component in swivel chairs, the quality of the five-star base is of utmost importance. Typically located at the bottom of the swivel chair, the five-star base has a star-shaped design and supports the entire weight of the chair and the user by connecting the wheels to the chair body. During the base static load test, the conditions simulate the significant pressure the chair endures during normal use. If the five-star base breaks during this test, it indicates serious quality issues.

If the quality of the five-star base is subpar, it is prone to breakage during use, posing significant safety risks to consumers. When the five-star base suddenly breaks, the chair loses balance, and the user is likely to fall due to the lack of support. Such falls can result in varying degrees of bodily harm, ranging from minor abrasions and sprains to severe consequences like fractures and head injuries, especially for the elderly, children, or those with weaker physical conditions, where the harm can be even more severe.

To avoid the risks associated with the breakage of an office chair's five-star base, consumers should purchase products from reputable channels and well-known brands when buying office chairs. These products typically adhere to strict quality standards during production and undergo multiple inspection processes, ensuring relatively better quality assurance. Additionally, consumers can check for relevant quality certification marks on the products, such as the China Compulsory Certificate (CCC certification). During use, it is important to avoid overloading the chair, refrain from vigorous shaking or jumping on the chair, and regularly inspect the five-star base for any signs of looseness or cracks. If any issues are detected, use should be discontinued immediately, and repairs or replacements should be made.
