Office Chair Five-Claw

Admin October 11, 2026

The five-claw component of an office chair is its core support part, primarily functioning to stabilize and bear weight while connecting the seat to components such as the gas lift and base. It is commonly found in executive chairs (big boss chairs) and similar types.

Material and Craftsmanship

The material of the office chair five-claw directly affects its durability and stability. Metal materials (such as aluminum alloy), known for their high strength and compressive resistance, are often used in high-end products. Some aluminum alloy five-claws undergo cold forging, a process that enhances internal structural density through high-pressure forming, further strengthening their compressive and deformation resistance and extending their service life. Nylon materials, on the other hand, are more prevalent in mid- to low-end products due to their low cost and light weight, though they have relatively weaker compressive resistance and require reinforcement with materials like glass fiber to improve performance.

Core Functions and Collaborative Work

The primary function of the five-claw is to distribute seat pressure evenly, ensuring uniform weight bearing. Its bottom is typically designed as a radial structure (five-claw shape), which increases the contact area with the ground, reduces local pressure, and prevents the chair from tipping over. Additionally, the five-claw must work closely with the gas lift and base: the gas lift is inserted into the central hole of the five-claw to enable seat height adjustment, while the base is bolted to the five-claw to connect the seat cushion and backrest, forming a complete weight-bearing system.

Quality Inspection Standards

To ensure safety, five-claws must pass rigorous static pressure tests. For example, some standards require applying a vertical pressure of 7,560N (approximately 771 kilograms) to the five-claw for 1 minute, repeating the test twice, and then checking for cracks, deformation, or breakage. This test simulates extreme weight-bearing scenarios (such as multiple people sitting simultaneously) to ensure the five-claw remains stable during long-term use.

Application Scenarios and Selection Recommendations

For scenarios requiring long-term weight bearing, such as executive chairs and conference chairs, it is recommended to prioritize aluminum alloy cold-forged five-claws for their superior compressive resistance and durability. If the budget is limited and usage frequency is low, nylon five-claws can meet basic needs, but overloading should be avoided. When purchasing, check the product inspection report or consult the merchant to confirm whether the five-claw has passed the static pressure test to ensure safety in use.
