Office Chair Finished Materials

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair finished materials can be classified into natural materials, synthetic chemical materials, composite materials, and other common fabrics based on their composition, as detailed below:

Natural materials include solid wood, natural leather, and natural fiber fabrics. Solid wood is divided into hardwood (oak, walnut, beech, cherry) and softwood (pine, fir), known for their beautiful grain patterns and strong load-bearing capacity, commonly used in dining chairs and office chairs. Natural leather, sourced from animal hides such as cows and sheep, is categorized into top-grain and split-grain leather, offering a delicate and premium feel, often used in high-end office chairs. Natural fiber fabrics, including cotton, linen, wool, and silk, are breathable and skin-friendly, frequently used in fabric dining chairs and leisure chairs.

Synthetic chemical materials encompass plastics, metals, synthetic leather, and synthetic fiber fabrics. Plastics, made from raw materials like PP (polypropylene), PE (polyethylene), ABS, and PU, are cost-effective, quick to mold, waterproof, and wear-resistant, making them the mainstream material for outdoor chairs, fast-food chairs, and children's chairs. Metals, including steel, aluminum alloy, stainless steel, and titanium alloy, are strong and durable, with aluminum alloy and titanium alloy offering significant lightweight advantages, commonly used in office chairs. Synthetic leather, produced by coating PU or PVC as a base material, can mimic the texture of natural leather at a lower cost, often used in office chairs. Synthetic fiber fabrics, such as polyester, acrylic, and nylon, are wear-resistant, dirt-resistant, and wrinkle-resistant, frequently used in outdoor fabric chairs and home leisure chairs.

Composite materials include man-made board composites and multi-material assemblies. Man-made board composites use man-made boards like density board, particle board, and plywood as the base material, paired with veneers, paint finishes, or film coatings, commonly seen in panel office chairs. Multi-material assemblies combine different materials, such as solid wood frames with metal legs, fabric cushions with solid wood frames, or plastic seats with metal supports, balancing aesthetics and practicality.

Other common fabrics include mesh and velvet. Mesh offers excellent breathability, suitable for prolonged use, while velvet is soft and comfortable, providing good warmth, often used in family living rooms and bedrooms.
