Office Chair Fault Repair

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair fault repair requires targeted handling based on specific issues. Here are common faults and repair methods:

I. Quickly tilting backward or to one side
This type of fault is usually caused by issues with the wheels or the seat plate. First, check if the wheels are stable when the chair is placed upright and upside down. Ensure that each wheel foot is in contact with the ground, and then invert the chair to observe if there are any signs of damage on the wheel feet. If the wheels are damaged, purchase new wheels that match the original model for replacement. If the wheels are in good condition and the ground is level, check if the seat plate is damaged. Place the chair on its side, locate the metal seat plate (usually a square black painted steel plate located at the bottom of the seat), and observe if it is deformed or broken. If the seat plate is damaged, contact the manufacturer for replacement or use professional tools for repair.

II. Sideways tilting or inability to adjust height
This fault is often related to the base, gas lift, or chair feet. For repair, prepare a rubber mallet (or a regular hammer with a towel as padding). Invert the chair and place it on the ground, use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the bottom tray, and separate the seat cushion from the tray. Then, disassemble the base, gas lift, and chair feet, and inspect each component one by one:

  • Base disassembly: Hold the chair upside down with one hand and strike specific positions on the base with a rubber mallet (or strike several times with an iron hammer and a towel as padding) to separate the base from the gas lift.
  • Gas lift inspection: If the chair cannot adjust its height, the gas lift may have failed. After inverting the chair, use a hammer to strike the bottom of the gas lift flatly from the side (be careful to avoid the middle button) and observe if it regains elasticity. If the gas lift has no elasticity or leaks air, replace it with a new one that has SGS, TUV, or other certifications.
  • Chair foot repair: Check if the chair feet have cracks or are deformed. If damaged, replace them with the same model of chair feet.

III. Noise issues
Noise is usually caused by loose or worn components and can be resolved by referring to seat maintenance methods:

  • Check if all screws are tightened, especially those at the connections between the base, gas lift, and wheel feet.
  • Apply special lubricant to moving parts (such as pivot points and casters) to reduce friction.
  • If the noise comes from the gas lift, it may be due to aging of the internal seals, and the gas lift needs to be replaced.

Repair precautions: Ensure that the chair is completely powered off before operation (if it is an electric chair), and avoid using excessive force to damage components. If the fault is complex or involves core structures (such as the risk of gas lift explosion), it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel for handling.
