Office Chair Fabric Types

Admin October 14, 2026

Common types of fabrics for office chair upholstery include genuine leather, ordinary PU or PVC leather, microfiber, as well as linen or mesh fabrics often used for executive chairs, each with its own characteristics.

Genuine leather is the highest-quality fabric for office chair upholstery. It features natural textures and a soft touch, providing a premium and comfortable seating experience. However, genuine leather is expensive, which makes many families hesitate when considering costs. Additionally, genuine leather has strict environmental requirements; it is sensitive to water and sunlight. Excessive moisture or prolonged exposure to sunlight can lead to deformation and fading. Moreover, genuine leather requires regular maintenance, such as wiping and moisturizing with professional leather care products to maintain its good condition, which can be inconvenient for some users.

Ordinary PU or PVC leather is inexpensive, which is one of its significant advantages, making it attractive to users with limited budgets. However, this type of fabric has poor aging resistance and is prone to cracking and peeling after two or three years of use, affecting the appearance and lifespan of the office chair.

Microfiber belongs to the high-end category of synthetic leathers. It has excellent abrasion resistance, capable of withstanding daily friction and scratches without damage. At the same time, microfiber has good hydrolysis resistance and remains stable even in humid environments. In terms of breathability, microfiber is superior to ordinary synthetic leathers, allowing users to feel more comfortable during prolonged sitting. Its price falls between genuine leather and ordinary PU or PVC leather. Considering its comprehensive performance and price, microfiber is a stable and cost-effective choice for seat upholstery.

As a type of generalized office chair, executive chairs often use linen or mesh fabrics. Linen fabric has good breathability, allowing air to circulate freely and reducing a stuffy feeling. Mesh fabric not only has strong breathability but also good resilience, providing appropriate support based on body pressure. Its design usually considers human sitting postures, conforming to ergonomic principles and offering a comfortable sitting experience for users.
