Fabrics for Office Chairs
Admin October 16, 2026
The fabrics for office chairs mainly include mesh fabric, leather, velvet, etc. The common fabrics under the chair are non-woven fabric and high-density polyester, each with its own characteristics.

Main Fabrics for Office Chairs
- Mesh Fabric: Mesh fabric is one of the commonly used materials for office chairs, with its biggest advantage being excellent breathability. During long-term use of an office chair, the human body continuously generates heat. Mesh fabric allows air to circulate freely, effectively reducing the feeling of stuffiness and keeping the body dry and comfortable, making it especially suitable for people who need to sit for long periods while working. Moreover, mesh fabric has a certain degree of elasticity, enabling it to deform to a certain extent according to the body's sitting posture and pressure distribution, providing good support and a sense of enclosure.
- Leather: An office chair made of leather gives a high-end and sophisticated impression, making it very suitable for high-end office environments. It has the characteristic of strong wear resistance. In daily use, it is not prone to wear and scratches, resulting in a relatively long service life. At the same time, the surface of leather is smooth, making it very easy to clean. Simply wiping it with a damp cloth can remove stains, making it a good choice for enterprises or individuals pursuing a clean and efficient office environment.
- Velvet: Velvet is loved by many for its soft and comfortable touch. Sitting on a velvet office chair, one can feel the warmth and comfort brought by the fine fluff, enhancing the user's experience. However, the use of velvet needs to consider specific scenarios and comfort levels. Due to the fact that the fluff on its surface easily adsorbs dust, cleaning is relatively difficult, and it may breed bacteria in humid environments. Therefore, it is not very suitable for use in environments with a lot of dust or high humidity.
Fabrics Under the Chair
- Non-woven Fabric: Non-woven fabric is relatively inexpensive and has a certain degree of breathability. However, it has an obvious drawback, which is that it easily sheds debris. After a period of use, there may be fabric damage and debris shedding, affecting the overall appearance and service life of the chair.
- High-density Polyester: High-density polyester is a fabric with excellent performance, featuring toughness and resistance to deformation under pulling. It can withstand relatively large pressure and pulling forces without being easily damaged. At the same time, it does not get moldy when damp and can maintain a good state even in humid environments. Especially black high-density polyester, it also has the advantages of being dirt-resistant, having firm dyeing, and not fading, making it very suitable as a fabric for the underside of chairs.
