Introduction to Office Chair Fabrics

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair fabrics mainly include four types: mesh, leather, velvet, and plastic fabric, each with distinct characteristics in terms of performance, applicable scenarios, and cost.

Mesh is a common material in office chairs, with its core advantages being elasticity and breathability. High-density polyester mesh can weigh over 100 grams per square meter, featuring a tight structure and resistance to pulling. It remains unchanged in shape over long-term use and does not mold even when damp, making it suitable for environments with underfloor heating or during the rainy season in southern regions. Black mesh stands out for its firm dyeing, excellent dirt resistance, and resistance to fading for up to ten years. Additionally, dust is less likely to be raised during cleaning, and the floor tiles are not scratched when moving the chair. Moreover, the breathability of mesh effectively alleviates the stuffy feeling caused by prolonged sitting, enhancing comfort.

Leather materials are divided into three types: genuine leather, artificial leather, and microfiber leather. Genuine leather offers exceptional breathability and a soft touch, making it ideal for prolonged use in air-conditioned rooms, albeit at a higher price. Artificial leather is cost-effective, durable, easy to clean, and resistant to deformation, but it has poor breathability and lower comfort compared to genuine leather. Microfiber leather closely resembles genuine leather in terms of touch and breathability, boasting excellent performance but at a higher cost, primarily used in high-end office settings. Leather materials, as a whole, are suitable for office environments that prioritize a sense of luxury or require frequent cleaning.

Velvet is renowned for its softness and comfort, significantly enhancing the warmth of a space, particularly suitable for leisure chairs or single sofas in bedrooms and living rooms. It offers superior warmth retention compared to other materials, but special care must be taken during cleaning to avoid stains or frequent washing, which may affect its texture. Velvet also has strong decorative properties, making it ideal for scenarios that emphasize atmosphere creation.

Plastic fabric typically offers a hard sitting feel and requires the use of cushions to increase comfort. Its advantages lie in its ease of cleaning and storage, as well as its cost-effectiveness, making it suitable for temporary or short-term office spaces such as conference halls and event venues. However, plastic fabric has lower durability and may experience surface wear due to friction over long-term use.

The choice of different fabrics requires a comprehensive consideration of the usage scenario, budget, and functional requirements. For example, mesh or genuine leather can be prioritized in office environments that require prolonged sitting; plastic fabric is suitable for temporary venues that prioritize cost-effectiveness; and velvet is ideal for leisure areas that emphasize decoration.
