Extremely Dirty Office Chair Fabric
Admin October 10, 2026
When the fabric of an office chair is extremely dirty, different cleaning methods can be chosen based on whether the fabric cover is removable. Details are as follows:

If the fabric cover is removable
- Preparation before removal: Take photos to record the positions and fixing methods of the components before removal. Operate gently in order to avoid damaging the fabric cover or the internal structure.
- Selection of washing methods: Check the washing label and choose machine washing or hand washing according to the instructions. The foam inner linings in some seat cushions may not support machine washing and need to be treated separately.
If the fabric cover is not removable or there are only local stains
- Basic cleaning:
- First, use a vacuum cleaner or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust and debris to prevent the stains from mixing with the dust and making cleaning more difficult.
- Deep cleaning:
- Neutral detergent: Add an appropriate amount of neutral detergent to a small container, dilute it with clean water, and then use a clean towel or paper towel to dip into the solution and gently wipe the fabric cushion. Avoid using an overly wet towel to prevent water penetration. For stubborn stains, apply the cleaning solution to the stains and gently scrub with a brush or a sponge.
- Dry-cleaning spray: Choose a dry-cleaning agent with stain-removing factors. After spraying, wait a few minutes, wipe with a clean cloth, and the stains will float up without damaging the material.
- Special foam cleaner: Spray it on the stains, wait for the foam to decompose the dirt, and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
- For different stubborn stains:
- Oil stains: For fresh oil stains within 1 hour, sprinkle about 2 mm thick baking soda powder and let it sit for 15 minutes to absorb the grease, and then wipe with the original or diluted dishwashing liquid. Cornstarch, alcohol, or foam cleaner combined with dishwashing liquid also have the same effect.
- Fruit juice/beverage stains: First, use a paper towel to absorb the surface liquid to prevent penetration. Then, dissolve a neutral detergent in warm water, dip a soft cloth into it, and wipe. Finally, dry it with a clean soft cloth.
- Mold spots or unknown stubborn stains: Try wiping with a mixture of white vinegar and water, or use a special interior cleaner or fiber cleaner. Very old stains can be cleaned with a steam cleaner, but test it in an inconspicuous place and control the temperature and pressure.
- Rinsing: Wet a clean towel or paper towel with clean water and wipe the surface of the fabric cushion to ensure that all detergent residues are removed.
- Drying: Place the fabric cushion in a well-ventilated place to dry. Avoid direct sunlight or drying with a hot air blower or a radiator at high temperatures to prevent discoloration or deformation. You can also use a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner to absorb excess water and then let it dry naturally in a cool and ventilated place.
Additional tips
- Clean regularly. It is best to perform a deep cleaning of the fabric cushion once a month.
- Before cleaning, you can treat the fabric cushion with a waterproof spray to prevent liquid penetration.
- Avoid using bleach, stain removers, strong acid and alkali cleaners, and hard-bristled brushes to prevent damaging the fibers, causing fading or breakage. When cleaning high-end fabrics such as velvet, it is recommended to use a dry-cleaning agent and try to avoid getting them wet.
