Office Chair Fabric Care

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair fabric care requires targeted methods based on the material. Here are the key points for cleaning and maintaining different materials:

Suede Office Chairs

  1. Daily Dust Removal:
Use a vacuum cleaner (equipped with a soft brush head), a small brush, or a clean soft brush to gently sweep away surface dust, paying special attention to debris in the crevices. Avoid direct patting to prevent dust from embedding into the fibers.
  2. Local Stain Removal:
For stains, add a small amount of neutral detergent (such as dishwashing liquid) to warm water (about 30ยฐC). Dip a soft cloth into the solution, wring it out until it is semi-dry, and then press and wipe vertically. Do not rub back and forth. For stubborn stains, repeat the operation but reduce the amount of water per application to avoid the fabric dripping.
  3. Drying and Brushing:
After cleaning, ventilate and dry immediately. Do not expose to direct sunlight or dry with high heat. After drying, gently brush the suede in the direction of the nap with a soft brush to restore its fluffiness.
  4. Prohibited Practices:
Do not use laundry detergent, bleach, or strongly alkaline cleaners; avoid covering or soaking with a damp cloth for an extended period; for valuable chairs or large-area stains, it is recommended to contact professional upholstery cleaning services.
  5. Daily Maintenance:
Vacuum regularly (1-2 times a week); avoid spilling drinks, and if spilled, suck up immediately; keep away from humid environments (such as near windows); place breathable cushions on the seat area to reduce wear.

Leather Office Chairs

  1. Basic Cleaning:
Coffee, oil stains, etc., can be wiped directly with a damp cloth (slightly damp) without disassembly. For stubborn stains, a small amount of neutral detergent can be used as an aid, but it should be wiped dry promptly.
  2. Material Differentiation and Maintenance:
    • Genuine Leather: Requires regular use of special leather care oil (once a month). Avoid direct sunlight or direct air conditioning blow to prevent cracking.
    • PU Leather/PVC Leather: Poor aging resistance, avoid scratches from sharp objects. It is prone to cracking and peeling after two to three years, so regular inspection is recommended.
    • Microfiber Leather: Wear-resistant and hydrolysis-resistant, with better breathability than ordinary synthetic leather. Daily cleaning is similar to that of genuine leather, but frequent maintenance is not required.
  3. Purchase Considerations:
Check for wear resistance (โ‰ฅ50,000 friction tests) and hydrolysis resistance (โ‰ฅ3 years without cracking); smell for any pungent odors (indicating inferior materials); observe whether the stitching is neat and the fabric thickness is uniform.
  4. Breathability Optimization:
Microfiber leather chairs can be paired with breathable backrest designs (such as perforated craftsmanship). In autumn and winter, leather surfaces are more windproof and dirt-resistant than mesh fabrics.

General Cleaning Principles

  1. Cloth Selection:
Preferably use towels, cotton cloths, or flannel cloths. Avoid coarse cloths, old clothes with threads or buttons to prevent scratching the surface.
  2. Special Stain Treatment:
    • Metal fittings: Use toothpaste to wipe away oxidation marks.
    • Wooden parts: Soak a cloth in expired milk to wipe away stains. Tea leaves or cold tea water can brighten the paint surface.
    • A mixture of salt and salad oil can be used to treat stubborn stains on tables and chairs (test on a small area first).
