External Dimensions of Office Chairs

Admin October 14, 2026

The external dimensions of office chairs involve multiple key parameters, with specific specifications as follows:

Seat height is one of the core indicators affecting comfort. The seat height of conventional office chairs typically ranges from 400 to 500mm, with some adjustable seats ranging from 380 to 480mm. For different genders, the recommended standard height for men is 41 to 43 centimeters, with an adjustment range covering 24 to 30 centimeters to accommodate individuals of varying heights. This design ensures that users can keep their feet flat on the ground and maintain a natural sitting posture.

Seat width directly affects the stability of hip support. The seat width of ordinary office chairs generally ranges from 400 to 560mm, meeting the needs of most body types. A seat that is too narrow restricts sitting posture and may cause fatigue with prolonged use; a seat that is too wide may affect the fit between the body and armrests.

Seat depth needs to match thigh length. Male users are suitable for a depth of 40 to 42 centimeters, while female users are suitable for 38 to 40 centimeters. Due to space constraints, the seat depth of partitioned office chairs may be reduced to 35 to 40 centimeters. Appropriate depth ensures that there is a gap of about 2-3 finger widths between the front of the thighs and the edge of the seat, avoiding pressure on the blood vessels behind the knees.

Backrest height determines the effectiveness of spinal support. Common specifications include two types: 630mm and 910mm. The height of lumbar-support backrests is typically 39 to 42 centimeters, while the backrests of executive chairs or large office chairs are higher, reaching 48 to 63 centimeters. A high backrest design supports the entire back, relieving pressure from prolonged sitting, but attention should be paid to its fit with the neck curve.

Backrest tilt angle affects the rationality of body posture. The optimal tilt angle ranges from 98 to 102 degrees, fitting the natural curve of the spine; the backrest tilt angle in seat design is generally 103ยฐ to 112ยฐ, which can disperse body pressure and reduce lumbar burden. Some high-end office chairs are also equipped with dynamic adjustment functions that automatically adjust the tilt angle according to user movements.

Armrest height needs to match the usage scenario. In resting scenarios, an armrest height of 20 to 23 centimeters is more appropriate; in work scenarios, the armrest height should be coordinated with the desk height, with a conventional design of 21 to 22cm. Appropriate armrest height can prevent shoulder suspension and reduce arm fatigue, but attention should be paid to compatibility with the operating space of keyboards and mice.
