Office Chair Explosion-Proof Modification

Admin October 13, 2026

Office chair explosion-proof modification can be achieved by adding explosion-proof steel plates or modifying the pneumatic lift chair. The specific methods are as follows:

1. Adding Explosion-Proof Steel Plates
Explosion-proof steel plates are the core components for enhancing the structural safety of office chairs. Their working principle is to disperse impact forces through high-strength materials, preventing the pneumatic rod or base from rupturing due to abnormal pressure.

  • Reinforcement at the Tray: Referring to the modification scheme for the seats of the Senna car, explosion-proof steel plates with a thickness of โ‰ฅ3.2 mm can be installed at key nodes of the tray (such as the triangular supports formed by reinforcing ribs). For dual protection, an additional horizontal support plate can be added to form a composite structure of 'steel plate + support plate'. For example, when modifying the computer chair from the aviation seat of a Buick GL8, a 3 mm steel plate base support is added on top of the original base explosion-proof steel plate, resulting in a total thickness of 5.5 mm. This increases the load-bearing capacity to 500 jin and significantly reduces the risk of explosion.
  • Overall Strengthening of the Base: For pneumatic lift chairs, explosion-proof steel plates can be added at the connection between the base and the pneumatic rod. The steel plate should cover the top of the pneumatic rod and the surrounding key force-bearing areas to ensure that in case of abnormal pressure, the steel plate can bear the impact first and prevent the pneumatic rod from rupturing directly.

2. Modifying the Pneumatic Lift Chair
The explosion risk of pneumatic lift chairs mainly stems from the loss of control of the high-pressure gas inside the pneumatic rod, so physical isolation is required to reduce the hazard.

  • Installation of Explosion-Proof Plates: After disassembling the chair, install explosion-proof plates on the outside of the pneumatic rod. The materials can be high-strength non-metallic plates (such as fiberglass PCB boards) or metal plates (such as copper plates). For example, cut three rusty fiberglass PCB boards with copper foil into circles matching the diameter of the pneumatic rod, stack them, wrap them together with transparent tape to form a total thickness of about 5 mm, and insert them between the pneumatic rod and the seat base. Perforated plates and other porous materials can reduce weight while maintaining structural strength, making them suitable as temporary protection solutions.
  • Inspection and Replacement of the Pneumatic Rod: Before modification, confirm the quality of the pneumatic rod and give priority to products that have passed international safety certifications such as SGS. If the pneumatic rod has air leaks, abnormal noises, or surface rust, it should be immediately replaced with a new rod equipped with an explosion-proof device to eliminate hidden dangers at the source.

Precautions:

  • During modification, ensure that the steel plates or explosion-proof plates are firmly fixed to the original structure of the chair to avoid secondary risks caused by looseness.
  • For non-professionals, it is recommended to prioritize the option of adding explosion-proof steel plates. Modifying the pneumatic rod requires careful handling of high-pressure components.
  • Regularly check the wear and tear of various components of the chair, especially pay attention to the tightness of the pneumatic rod and the deformation of the steel plates.
