Office Chair Explosion Prevention

Admin October 09, 2026

Preventing office chair explosions requires comprehensive measures in terms of product selection, quality control of gas springs, and daily usage.

I. Selecting Qualified Products

  1. Identify Standards and Certifications: Give priority to products that comply with the QB/T2280 - 2016 standard and check if the gas spring has passed the 5G5 certification. Regular gas springs usually have steel stamps. You can conduct a shaking test to assess the smoothness of the lifting and lowering; no jamming is ideal. Also, ask the merchant for a test report to confirm that the product has passed 120,000 impact tests (a basic threshold).
  2. Choose Brands and Patented Technologies: Prefer brands that have passed international certifications, such as those using military-grade gas springs (e.g., Xiaocaoshuhulun 2), dual-core chassis (e.g., ErgoHuman Elite 2 by Ergotron), or explosion-proof steel plate designs (e.g., Sihoo). These technologies reduce explosion risks through structural optimization.
  3. Be Alert to Unqualified Ratios: In 2024, national inspections showed that 23.3% of unqualified chairs had explosion hazards, and in 2022, 3.3% of gas springs failed inspections. Avoid buying low-priced products without brands or certifications.

II. Paying Attention to Gas Spring Quality

  1. Adequate Wall Thickness: The wall thickness of a regular gas spring should be โ‰ฅ 2 millimeters. Inferior products with thin walls are prone to breakage under high pressure. When purchasing, you can ask the merchant for wall thickness test data or make a preliminary judgment by observing the thickness of the gas spring.
  2. Gas Purity Requirements: The gas filled in the gas spring should be nitrogen with a purity of โ‰ฅ 99%. Some manufacturers use compressed air instead. Due to its high oxygen content, friction-generated heat can easily trigger an explosion. You can check the product manual or consult customer service to confirm the gas composition.

III. Daily Usage Norms

  1. Control Lifting Frequency: Avoid frequent lifting and lowering (e.g., more than 5 times per hour) to reduce internal friction and metal fatigue in the gas spring.
  2. Keep Away from High-Temperature Environments: Do not place the chair near heaters, stoves, or expose it to the sun for a long time. High temperatures accelerate the expansion of the gas inside the gas spring, increasing the explosion risk.
  3. Prohibit Violent Usage: Avoid using the chair as a trampoline for jumping or scratching the surface of the gas spring with sharp objects (e.g., keys, knives) to prevent wall damage and gas leakage.
  4. Regularly Replace Aging Products: The service life of a gas spring is generally 3 years. After this period, the internal seals age and the gas purity decreases. It is recommended to replace the entire chair or the gas spring assembly.
