Office Chair Explosion in Xiamen
Admin October 14, 2026
There have indeed been incidents in Xiamen where office chairs (pneumatic lifting chairs) have exploded, causing injuries to individuals.

Incident Examples:
- It was reported that a Ms. Lin in Xiamen was sitting on a chair using a hairdryer to dry her hair when the chair suddenly exploded, causing her severe injuries. Doctors removed a 20-centimeter-long metal object from her body, which was a component of the chair.
- Another incident involved Ms. Liu in Xiamen, who, after taking a shower, sat on her computer chair to dry her hair when it exploded, severely injuring her buttocks and causing significant bleeding. After surgery, doctors removed more than ten pieces of chair fragments from her intestines.
Causes of Explosion:
- The primary cause of explosions in pneumatic lifting chairs is related to the quality of the pneumatic rods. Pneumatic rods from reputable manufacturers undergo rigorous quality testing and must withstand 120,000 consecutive impacts before being released for sale, ensuring their safety and stability during normal use. However, some low-quality pneumatic chairs are produced with substandard materials, and their pneumatic rods may not even withstand a single impact. When users perform actions such as standing up or sitting down on the chair, these actions generate impact forces on the pneumatic rods. Poor-quality pneumatic rods are prone to breaking under these forces, leading to explosions.
Explosion Power:
- The power of an explosion in a pneumatic lifting chair is immense. Since the pneumatic rod is typically filled with high-pressure gas, an explosion results in the instantaneous release of this gas, generating a powerful impact force capable of piercing through flesh and bone. As seen in the incidents in Xiamen, the fragments produced by the explosion can penetrate deep into the body, causing extremely severe injuries to users. These injuries not only result in surface wounds but can also damage internal organs, causing immense pain and long-term health effects for the victims.
