Office Chair Explosion and Anal Fissure

Admin October 10, 2026

An explosion of an office chair can indeed lead to serious injuries such as anal fissures, and such accidents are often related to low-quality gas springs.

Cases of injuries caused by exploding gas springs are not rare. For example, in 2013, Ms. Liu in Xiamen sat on a swivel chair after taking a shower, and the chair suddenly exploded. A three-centimeter-thick steel rod shot out from the bottom of the chair and directly pierced her lower body. The hospital took six hours to remove more than ten metal fragments. Similar accidents have occurred more than 40 times across the country over the past decade, and most of the victims were injured due to the use of office chairs with low-quality gas springs.

The main reason for the explosion of gas springs is that unscrupulous manufacturers replace the stable nitrogen gas filled inside with compressed air to reduce costs. The oxygen in the air reacts with the metal components through oxidation, generating heat and causing pressure to build up, ultimately leading to an explosion. In addition, actions such as sitting down forcefully and frequently adjusting the height during use can aggravate the wear and tear of the gas spring, further increasing the risk of explosion.

To avoid such accidents, users should pay attention to the following points when purchasing office chairs:

  • Choose products from regular manufacturers: Products from regular manufacturers strictly adhere to relevant standards during the production process, using qualified materials and processes, thereby reducing the risk of gas spring explosions.
  • Check the appearance of the gas spring: When purchasing, carefully check whether the gas spring has scratches or deformations, which may be signs of poor quality or damage to the gas spring.
  • Check for quality certifications: Choose office chairs with quality certifications (such as SGS or ISO certifications), which are reliable guarantees of product quality.

By taking these measures, users can significantly reduce the risk of explosion when using office chairs and protect their own safety.
