Office Chair Explosion
Admin October 08, 2026
Office chair punctures are usually related to the explosion of pneumatic lifting chairs, which can cause severe damage and personal injury.

Typical Cases of Pneumatic Lifting Chair Explosions
- Hefei Case: A pneumatic lifting chair used by a netizen's colleague suddenly exploded. The metal tube at the broken part of the rotating shaft was severely deformed and cracked. The impact of the explosion also affected the computer host next to the chair, causing the host case to crack.
- Zhoushan, Zhejiang Case: In 2007, Ms. Lou's chair in Dinghai District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, exploded, puncturing the chair seat and revealing a large, obvious hole.
Main Reasons for Pneumatic Lifting Chair Explosions
- Insufficient Nitrogen Purity: Pneumatic lifting chairs achieve lifting and lowering functions through high-pressure nitrogen in the cylinder. If the nitrogen filled in the cylinder has insufficient purity and may be mixed with other gases (such as oxygen), a chemical reaction can be triggered under high temperature or friction, causing a sudden increase in pressure inside the cylinder and leading to an explosion.
- Material or Process Defects in the Cylinder Wall: If the cylinder wall is not strong enough or the material is of poor quality (such as using inferior metal or plastic), it may deform or crack under long-term use or external impact, resulting in the instantaneous release of high-pressure gas inside.
- Poor Sealing of the Cylinder Seal: If there is a problem with the poor sealing of the cylinder seal, it may cause internal gas leakage or the entry of external moisture and impurities, corroding the internal structure of the cylinder or changing the gas composition, ultimately leading to an explosion.
Preventive Measures and Safety Recommendations
- Purchase Genuine Products: Choose pneumatic lifting chairs that have passed national safety certification and are produced by regular manufacturers. Avoid purchasing "three-no" products or low-priced and inferior products.
- Standardize Usage Behavior: Avoid repeatedly and rapidly lifting or sliding the chair to reduce cylinder friction; do not sit down abruptly to prevent excessive instantaneous pressure; do not disassemble the cylinder privately to avoid damaging the internal structure.
- Pay Attention to the Usage Environment: Keep the chair away from high-temperature sources (such as heating and stoves) to prevent the gas inside the cylinder from expanding due to heat; avoid keeping the chair in a humid environment for a long time to prevent corrosion of metal parts.
- Regular Inspection and Maintenance: Contact professionals to regularly inspect the cylinder's sealing, air pressure value, and structural integrity, and promptly replace aging or damaged parts.
