Office Chair Exhaust Noise

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair exhaust noise is usually caused by the characteristics of the leather material or issues with the internal filling, and it is a normal phenomenon that generally does not affect use.

Caused by Leather Material Characteristics

The leather material used in some office leather chairs emits a slight hissing sound when under pressure. This is because leather is inherently soft and elastic. When a person sits down or moves, the leather is compressed, and the internal air is expelled, resulting in a โ€œpuffingโ€ exhaust sound. This sound is caused by the inherent characteristics of the leather material and will not have a substantial impact on the chair's use and comfort. For example, some high-end genuine leather office chairs, due to their soft and elastic leather, may produce a relatively noticeable exhaust sound when first used. However, as the usage time increases, the leather will gradually adapt to the pressure, and the sound will decrease accordingly.

Caused by Internal Filling Issues

Loose internal filling in the leather chair or the movement of gas between the filling materials can also cause a hissing sound. During the production of office chairs, the filling may not be fully compacted, or during use, due to frequent sitting and moving, the gaps between the filling materials change, causing gas to flow within them and produce sound. This situation is usually temporary and will not affect the chair's structure and function. As the usage time increases, the filling will gradually become compacted, the gaps will become smaller, gas flow will decrease, and the sound will also decrease or disappear accordingly. For example, some office chairs filled with sponge may emit an exhaust sound when first purchased because there is some air inside the sponge. However, after a period of use, the sponge becomes compacted, and the sound significantly decreases.
