Energy-Saving Posture on Office Chairs
Achieving an energy-saving posture on office chairs requires comprehensive adjustments in seat depth, body recline angle, foot placement, and lumbar support to reduce physical stress and maintain comfort and health.

Seat Depth Adjustment: The appropriate seat depth is fundamental to an energy-saving posture. Shorten the seat depth of the office chair slightly to ensure that the thighs are fully supported by the seat, leaving about two fingers' width of space behind the knees. This adjustment prevents compression of the front thighs, promotes blood circulation, and reduces leg fatigue. It also helps distribute the body's center of gravity more stably on the seat, reducing the burden on the lower back and back.
Body Recline Angle: The angle of body recline is crucial for energy-saving effects. When reclining, the pelvis should tilt slightly forward, keeping the thighs at approximately a 95-degree angle to the horizontal plane. This position reduces pressure on the lumbar spine, allows the gluteal muscles to relax naturally, and prevents muscle tension and fatigue caused by prolonged upright postures. Additionally, a slight recline at an angle of about 100 to 110 degrees can also be effective. The key is to ensure that the entire back, especially the lower back, is in close contact with the chair back for good support.
Foot Placement: The natural placement of the feet is equally important for maintaining an energy-saving posture. When leaning back in the chair, the feet should be naturally perpendicular to the ground, with the thighs perpendicular to the calves, ensuring no pressure on the knees. If the feet cannot reach the ground when leaning back, a footrest can be used to adjust the height and keep the feet in a comfortable position. This prevents poor blood circulation and muscle fatigue caused by leg suspension.
Lumbar Support Adjustment: Adjusting the lumbar support is an indispensable part of an energy-saving posture. The lumbar support should be aligned with the third lumbar vertebra. For chairs with lumbar supports, adjust the support to the point that precisely supports the natural curve of the lumbar spine, providing a stable and secure feeling. This effectively reduces pressure on the lumbar spine, prevents the occurrence of lumbar spine diseases, and allows the back muscles to relax, improving the comfort of the sitting posture.
