Office Chair Employee Chair Materials
Common materials for office chairs and employee chairs include solid wood, cowhide, rosewood, mesh fabric, leather, recycled eco-friendly materials, iron products, and sponge, each with distinct characteristics.

Mesh fabric is a popular choice for office chairs, such as types like Longwen Te mesh. Its core advantages lie in its high elasticity and breathability. The woven structure of mesh fabric forms dense air holes, accelerating air circulation and effectively reducing the stuffy feeling caused by prolonged sitting where the buttocks and back come into contact with the seat surface, thus avoiding skin irritation from humid environments. Additionally, the elastic design of mesh fabric can disperse body pressure, providing a certain degree of support, making it suitable for scenarios requiring long hours of desk work.
Among leather materials, top-grain cowhide is a commonly used material for high-end office chairs. Its surface retains the natural texture and pores of the leather, featuring abrasion resistance, durability, and a soft touch. After special treatment, top-grain cowhide has strong tear resistance, is not prone to deformation, and is relatively easy to clean and maintain daily; a damp cloth can be used to wipe away stains. However, the breathability of leather materials is relatively weak, and in summer, it may be necessary to use a breathable seat cushion or choose models with breathable hole designs.
Solid wood and rosewood are mostly used for the frames or armrests of office chairs. Solid wood (such as oak and walnut) is hard, has strong load-bearing capacity, and its natural texture is aesthetically pleasing, enhancing the quality of the office environment. Rosewood, on the other hand, is a high-end wood with high density and corrosion resistance, but it is relatively expensive and is usually used for seats in management or meeting scenarios. Iron products (such as steel pipes) are often used for chair legs or support structures, providing a stable load-bearing foundation. Some designs enhance rust resistance through electroplating or painting processes.
Sponge is the core filling material for the seat cushions and backrests of office chairs, and its density and resilience directly affect comfort. High-density sponge (such as 45D or above) has strong support and is not prone to collapse, making it suitable for long-term use. Low-density sponge is softer but may deform over long-term use. Some office chairs adopt a layered design, with a soft sponge on the upper layer to enhance comfort and a high-density sponge on the lower layer to ensure support.
Recycled eco-friendly materials are a green choice that has emerged in recent years. Made from recycled plastics or plant fibers, they reduce resource consumption and align with environmental protection concepts. These materials are usually used for non-load-bearing parts such as chair backs or armrests, balancing practicality and sustainability.
