Office Chair Electrophoresis

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chair electrophoresis is a surface treatment process for the metal components of office chairs, primarily aimed at enhancing the rust resistance and durability of the metal parts.

1. Application Scenarios of Electrophoresis Process
The cold-rolled steel tube inner lining frames commonly found in office chairs are the main application targets of the electrophoresis process. As the core material of the support structure, the surface of cold-rolled steel tubes is prone to rusting due to environmental humidity or contact with corrosive substances if left untreated. The electrophoretic coating forms a uniform and dense protective film on the metal surface, effectively isolating moisture and oxygen, thereby extending the service life of the frame. Additionally, the caster fittings of office chairs also widely adopt the electrophoresis process, such as 3-inch black electrophoretic metal frame screw-type all-black PU universal wheels and 3-inch black electrophoretic metal frame insert-type all-black PU universal wheels. After electrophoretic treatment, the metal frames of these casters not only have improved corrosion resistance but also maintain long-term stability in appearance, avoiding structural looseness or jamming issues caused by rusting.

2. Core Functions of Electrophoresis Process
The primary function of electrophoretic coatings is rust prevention, but their performance needs to be verified through rigorous testing. Salt spray testing is a key indicator for evaluating the quality of electrophoretic coatings. This test simulates extreme corrosive environments with high humidity and high salt content (such as coastal areas or industrial pollution zones) to accelerate the corrosion process of metal parts and observe whether the coating exhibits blistering, peeling, or rusting. If the electrophoretic coating can pass long-term salt spray tests (such as 48 hours, 96 hours, or even longer), it proves to have excellent durability and can meet the rust prevention needs of office chairs during long-term use.

3. Advantages of Electrophoresis Process
Compared to traditional spray painting or electroplating processes, electrophoresis offers advantages such as uniform coating, strong adhesion, and high environmental friendliness. Since the electrophoresis process relies on the electric field to make the paint particles deposit directionally on the metal surface, it can cover all corners of complex structures, avoiding issues of missed coating or uneven thickness. Meanwhile, electrophoretic coatings are mostly water-based systems with low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), meeting the requirements of modern industry for environmentally friendly production. These characteristics make the electrophoresis process the preferred solution for surface treatment of metal components in office chairs.
