Office Chair Edge Pressure
Admin October 09, 2026
The issue of office chair edge pressure mainly involves two aspects: the hard pressure of the cushion edge on the thighs and the installation of edge-sealing strips on the chair. Here are specific analyses and solutions:

Hard Pressure of Cushion Edge on Thighs
- Causes:
- Cushion Material Issues: Cheap cushion foams have high density and a hard texture, and their front edges lack a waterfall-shaped sinking design, resulting in sharp edges that easily press on the thighs.
- Cushion Size Issues: If the cushion is too deep, when a person leans back, the root of the thighs gets stuck on the hard edge; or if the sitting posture is too far forward, with the whole person sitting on the edge of the cushion, the force is concentrated on the root of the thighs.
- Solutions:
- Adjust Sitting Posture: Sit back and lean against the lumbar support to avoid sitting only on the front half of the chair, thus avoiding the pressure points of the hard edge.
- Add a Breathable Thin Cushion: Choose a thin cotton pad or mesh pad with a curved front edge to buffer the sharp corners of the hard edge and relieve the pressure on the legs.
- Lower the Chair Height: If the chair is too high, it will press the thighs downward, making the edge more likely to pinch the legs. Appropriately lower the seat height to allow the thighs to rest naturally and reduce the pressure.
- Tips for Avoiding Pitfalls When Purchasing: Prioritize cushions with a waterfall-shaped front edge design, where the edge slopes slightly downward, not pressing or pinching the legs; choose shaped foams with moderate softness and hardness and a softened front edge, not the harder the better; adjustable seat depth models can shorten the cushion forward, suitable for short people, avoiding being pinched by the edge.
Installation of Edge-Sealing Strips on the Chair
- Preparation Tools: Edge-sealing strips, gypsum boards, woodworking glue, handsaws, electric drills, screws, etc.
- Installation Steps:
- Measure Dimensions: Use appropriate measuring tools to accurately measure the dimensions of the parts of the chair where edge-sealing strips need to be installed to ensure that the cut edge-sealing strips are of the appropriate length.
- Positioning for Installation: Place the cut edge-sealing strips on the chair and use a marking pen or a wooden stick in hand to make marks along the top edge of the edge-sealing strips in sequence to determine the installation position.
- Fixation: Use screws to firmly fix the edge-sealing strips on the chair to ensure stable installation.
