Office Chairs Are Prone to Tipping Over

Admin October 17, 2026

Office chairs are prone to tipping over mainly because some products have substandard stability, posing safety hazards.

  1. Substandard Stability as the Primary Cause
According to the national supervision and random inspection results of office chairs released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, some office chairs have substandard stability, with seven batches of products failing to meet the stability standards. Stability is a crucial indicator for assessing whether an office chair meets quality standards. If it fails, the chair is prone to tipping over when the user leans forward, backward, or sits sideways, potentially causing injury to consumers.

  2. Stability Testing Standards and Substandard Performance
According to office chair standards, under test conditions where a load of 600 Newtons (equivalent to 120 jin or approximately 60 kg) is applied to the seat surface and a horizontal force of not less than 20 Newtons is applied, qualified products should not tip over. However, products with substandard stability fail to meet this requirement, indicating defects in their structural design or material strength that prevent them from withstanding normal external forces during use.

  3. Involved Enterprises and Product Batches
The inspection revealed that seven batches of office chairs from seven enterprises, including Foshan Shouyu Furniture Co., Ltd., Huizhou Branch of Shenzhen Jialewei Dun Furniture Co., Ltd., Foshan Xinpin Furniture Co., Ltd., Foshan Zunsheng Furniture Co., Ltd., Anji Dazhi Furniture Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Foshan Tianyu Furniture Co., Ltd., and Anji Dipu Youxuan Furniture Accessories Factory, failed the stability test. The products from these enterprises may have issues in design, production, or quality control, leading to substandard stability.

  4. Consumer Purchase Recommendations
To avoid purchasing office chairs prone to tipping over, consumers should choose products that have passed national quality certification and pay attention to the stability test results on product labels or instructions. Additionally, when using the chair, avoid excessive leaning forward, backward, or sitting sideways, regularly check for loose chair structures to ensure safety, and immediately stop using and contact the manufacturer or after-sales service if abnormal wobbling or tipping risks are detected.
