Office Chair Dyeing
Admin October 09, 2026
For office chair dyeing issues, different treatment methods should be selected according to different purposes: if it is to remove stains such as hair dye, cleaning methods can be used; if it is to re-dye, painting steps should be followed.

I. Dyeing Treatment for Removing Hair Dye and Other Stains
If a wooden office chair is stained with hair dye, the following cleaning method can be used:
- Prepare materials: 84 disinfectant, toothpaste, salt, and a discarded toothbrush. 84 disinfectant has an oxidizing and bleaching effect, which can decompose the pigments in hair dye; toothpaste contains abrasives and cleaning ingredients that can help remove stains; salt can increase friction and enhance the cleaning effect.
- Operation steps: Dilute the 84 disinfectant and apply it to the stained area. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes (avoid prolonged contact to prevent damage to the wooden surface); then squeeze an appropriate amount of toothpaste onto the stain, sprinkle a small amount of salt, and use the discarded toothbrush to scrub vigorously in a circular motion, focusing on the edges and stubborn stains; finally, wipe clean with water and dry.
- Precautions: Test in a concealed area before operation to confirm no corrosion or discoloration before applying it to a large area; keep the area well-ventilated after cleaning to avoid residual chemicals.
II. Painting Steps for Re-dyeing an Office Chair
Taking a monolithic sofa chair in a red color scheme as an example, the dyeing process should be carried out as follows:
- Sketch drawing:
- Use a pencil to outline the contour lines of the chair's length, width, and height to determine the overall proportions.
- Depict the base part, mainly using broken lines, and use a ruler and compass to ensure straight lines; slow down at the turning points to ensure the correct perspective direction (e.g., nearer objects appear larger and farther objects appear smaller).
- Draw the sketches of the seat cushion and backrest, only showing the basic shapes without fine details, focusing on ensuring the correct perspective proportions.
- Dyeing techniques:
- Base coating: Use R5 color (light red) to cover the entire surface of the chair, with heavier strokes at the edges and lighter strokes in the middle, naturally leaving highlight areas.
- Main body dyeing: Apply R4 color (medium red) to the armrests and seat cushion to enhance the sense of layering.
- Deepening the inherent color: Use R7 color (dark red) as the deepening color for the inherent color, locally overlay it on the shadow areas to make the colors richer (usually, two colors are selected to shape a monolithic object, but here three colors are used to enhance the three-dimensional effect).
- Cool-warm contrast and brightening: Place B112 purple-gray in the dark areas to create a cool-warm contrast with the red; use white to brighten the highlights and black to deepen the edge contours to enhance the light and shadow effects.
Key tips: Before dyeing, ensure that the surface of the chair is clean and free of oil stains; if it is a wooden chair, sand it and apply a primer to enhance the adhesion of the paint.
