Office Chair Dust-Proof and Flame-Retardant

Admin October 12, 2026

There are clear standards for the flame retardancy of office chairs, but there is currently no unified specification for dust prevention.

Standards and Requirements for Flame Retardancy of Office Chairs

The flame-retardant performance of domestic office chairs is mainly tested according to two national standards:

  • GB 17927.1-2011: This standard focuses on the smoldering cigarette ignition test for upholstered furniture, simulating the risk of material ignition when a cigarette burns slowly. It requires that the material should not continue to burn easily or produce an open flame after contact with the cigarette.
  • GB 17927.2-2011: This standard pertains to the ignition test simulating a match flame, evaluating the flame-retardant ability of materials under brief open-flame contact to ensure that the flame does not spread rapidly. In addition, the industry standard QB/T 2280-2016 'Office Furniture - Office Chairs' explicitly requires that office chairs should meet the above flame-retardant standards, suitable for the safety requirements of public places and co-working spaces.

As fire safety regulations tighten, flame-retardant design has evolved from a single fabric treatment to a systematic solution. For example, the office chair series from Guangdong Jingyi Furniture Co., Ltd. uses B1-grade flame-retardant fabric and integrates the flame-retardant properties of sponge, wooden backing plates, and plastic accessories to form multi-layer protection. This systematic design can effectively reduce fire risks and meet the 'one-vote veto' requirements in public place tenders.

Current Situation and Suggestions for Dust-Proof Function of Office Chairs

Currently, there is no mandatory standard for the dust-proof performance of office chairs in China, and related functions are mostly developed independently by enterprises or achieved through material selection. Common dust-proof measures include:

  1. Fabric Selection: Using anti-static, easy-to-clean fabrics or leathers to reduce dust adhesion and facilitate wiping.
  2. Structural Design: Optimizing the gap treatment of the chair back and seat cushion to prevent dust accumulation in hidden areas.
  3. Additional Accessories: Some products are equipped with removable dust covers that can be cleaned regularly to maintain cleanliness.

If both dust prevention and flame retardancy are required, it is recommended to prioritize the selection of fabrics that have passed B1-grade flame-retardant certification and confirm their surface smoothness and anti-static properties to reduce dust adhesion. Meanwhile, regular cleaning and maintenance (such as using a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth for wiping) can further extend the product's service life and reduce safety hazards.
