Office Chair Drilling Customization

Admin October 16, 2026

Customization of drilling for office chairs requires comprehensive consideration of equipment, tools, techniques, and safety standards. The key points are as follows:

I. Equipment Selection

  1. High-end CNC Equipment: Chair back trimming and drilling machines are based on five-axis linkage or high-precision three-axis machining center technology, suitable for complex curved surface processing (such as ergonomic chair backs). Their core advantages include micron-level positioning accuracy (0.02-0.03mm), high-speed spindles (0-24000rpm), and automated tool management, enabling integrated operations from rough trimming to precision drilling. These machines rely on CAM software for path planning and are suitable for custom production of mid-to-high-end solid wood chairs and gaming chairs.
  2. General-purpose Equipment: Machines such as Domi CNC gantry-type drilling and tapping machines, vertical multi-axis hydraulic automatic drilling machines, and woodworking horizontal double-end milling and slotting machines can also be used for drilling office chairs, but appropriate models must be selected based on processing requirements (such as hole diameter and material).

II. Tool and Drill Bit Matching

  1. Tool Types:
    • Electric drills/hand drills: Suitable for holes with a diameter < 10mm, offering flexible operation.
    • Hammer drills: Suitable for holes with a diameter > 10mm, especially for hard materials (such as metal and thick wood).
  2. Drill Bit Materials:
    • Cobalt steel drill bits: Used for hard materials such as metal and high-density wood, offering strong wear resistance.
    • HSS drill bits: Suitable for soft materials such as plastic, with a diameter slightly smaller than the target hole diameter to reduce burrs.

III. Marking and Positioning Techniques

  1. Precise Marking: Make a cross mark at the drilling position and lightly press with the drill bit to create a small indentation, fixing the starting point of the drill bit.
  2. Auxiliary Tools: Use a square ruler or laser positioning device to ensure the perpendicularity of the hole position, avoiding tilting that could lead to structural instability.

IV. Safety Operation Standards

  1. Personal Protection: Wear safety goggles, dust masks, and cut-resistant gloves to prevent injury from flying debris.
  2. Environment Management: Keep away from flammable and explosive materials and ensure good ventilation in the work area.
  3. Equipment Safety:
    • CNC equipment operators must undergo professional training, and the air pressure should be stable at 0.6-0.8Mpa to prevent spindle vibration.
    • When manually intervening with the robotic arm or handling stuck tools, the emergency stop must be activated, and the equipment must be physically locked.

V. Drilling Technique Optimization

  1. Low-speed Start: Drill slowly to reduce drill bit deviation, and feed in stages for hard materials.
  2. Pilot Hole Design: For large hole diameters (such as > 15mm), a small drill bit (such as 6mm) should be used first to create a pilot hole, improving accuracy.
  3. Real-time Cleaning: Regularly remove debris to prevent drill bit overheating or jamming, and use compressed air for auxiliary cleaning.
