Office Chair DIY Tutorial

Admin October 12, 2026

When making an office chair, you can choose the DIY method for a simple folding chair, a simple ergonomic chair, or a sturdy and portable folding chair according to your needs. Here are the specific tutorials:

Simple DIY Folding Chair: First, prepare a piece of woodworking board and evenly cover its surface with masking paper. Use a pencil or professional drawing tool to draw the design pattern on the masking paper, paying attention to the proper use of the tool to ensure the pattern is neat and accurate. If the pattern is complex and difficult to identify, you can pause the operation or use screenshots for assistance. After completing the drawing, use a jigsaw or other tools to cut along the edges of the pattern, maintaining stable operation during the cutting process. After cutting, tear off the remaining masking paper and sand the edges of the woodworking board until the surface is smooth and free of burrs. Assemble the sanded parts according to the design, use a hole punch to make small circular holes at key connection points, install hinges, and secure them. Turn the seat over and continue to install the remaining hinges to ensure a stable structure. After unfolding the chair, draw marking lines by observing the positions of the support points, and use tools to make two corner holes at the marked positions so that the parts can fit precisely, completing the basic frame construction.

DIY Simple Ergonomic Chair: This method focuses on improving comfort through the modification of existing items without complex processing. For example, when making a lumbar cushion, you can choose memory foam or high-density foam as the filling material and wrap it with breathable cotton and linen fabric on the outside. Design the shape of the cushion according to the curve of the human waist and fix the edges of the fabric by sewing or pasting. Attach the made cushion to the backrest of an ordinary office chair using straps or Velcro and adjust it to the support position where the waist naturally bends. In addition, you can fold an old towel into a neck support cushion or use plastic bottles to make a footrest. By combining these simple accessories, you can improve your body posture during long periods of sitting.

DIY Sturdy and Portable Folding Chair: In the material preparation stage, cut steel pipes, mark and saw them according to a length of 4D centimeters (the specific unit of measurement needs to be confirmed). Use round fittings at the top to mark and then cut holes. Place aluminum feet at the chair leg positions, mark the hole-digging positions according to the width of the chair feet, cut short sections of steel pipes, and mark hole-digging positions according to the height of the small fittings. Insert wooden blocks into the holes, sand the excess edges, and then dig through the original holes again to ensure the wooden blocks are completely penetrated. When making the seat cushion, mark the screw fixing points according to the distance between the chair legs. Dig grooves at the marked positions on the inner chair legs to achieve the folding function, and weld screws on the outer chair legs to complete the assembly. Weld crossbeams between the chair legs to enhance structural stability. If the bottom of the chair is not level when placed flat, cut some of the chair legs for adjustment. Finally, paint the entire chair for rust prevention and to improve its appearance.
