Office Chair DIY Tutorial
Admin October 09, 2026
The office chair DIY tutorial mainly covers two types: making mini woven chairs and repairing sunken office chairs. Here are the specific methods:

I. DIY Mini Woven Chair Tutorial
Materials Needed: Foam, wooden board, cotton thread, fabric (can use old scraps), and sponge. Production Steps:
- Chair Surface Base: Combine foam and a wooden board to form the chair surface frame, ensuring structural stability.
- Weaving Process: Wrap the cotton thread around the chair surface frame, creating a net-like structure through cross-weaving to enhance the chair surface's load-bearing capacity.
- Chair Surface Covering: Cut open the old fabric, sew one piece with the sponge, and then cover it on the woven chair surface. Use the fabric edges to secure the sponge and prevent it from sliding. Precautions: Maintain even tension in the cotton thread while weaving to avoid local looseness. When sewing the fabric and sponge together, it is recommended to use strong thread to prevent cracking after long-term use.
II. Repairing Sunken Office Chairs (DIY Repair)
Method 1: Using Hose Clamps
- Adjust Chair Structure: Slide the plastic skirt down from the cylinder and adjust the chair to the desired height. If the skirt covers the cylinder, invert the chair, use a screwdriver to press the base fixing clip, remove the wheels and skirt, and then reinstall the wheels.
- Enhance Clamp Grip: Wrap rubber bands, tape, or sand the surface of the cylinder to increase the friction between the hose clamp and the cylinder.
- Fix and Test: Wrap the hose clamp around the cylinder (do not tighten it yet), adjust it to the appropriate height, and then tighten the clamp. If the height is inaccurate, move the clamp up or down. If the clamp slips, secure it with a rubber strip or switch to the PVC pipe method.
Method 2: Using PVC Pipes
- Measurement and Material Selection: Adjust the chair to the perfect height and measure the diameter and length of the cylinder. Purchase a PVC pipe with the same or slightly larger diameter and matching length (or a plastic shower ring, ensuring sturdiness).
- Pipe Processing: Fix the PVC pipe in a vise and cut it lengthwise with a hacksaw or reciprocating saw (it is recommended to wear a mask or respirator to prevent inhaling debris).
- Installation and Adjustment: Slide the cut pipe over the cylinder. If installation is difficult, remove the chair wheels first. Ensure the pipe completely wraps around the cylinder, then reinstall the wheels and test the chair's height stability.
Safety Tips: Wear protective gloves during operation to avoid cuts. When using power tools, it is recommended to wear safety goggles. If the cylinder is internally damaged (such as air leakage), replace it with a new one. DIY repair is only suitable for external structural issues.
