Office Chair Distance

Admin October 08, 2026

The distance of office chairs varies depending on the usage scenario, as detailed below:

In home office or general office settings, when using a keyboard, a distance of 60 to 75 centimeters between the desk and chair is appropriate. This distance allows the user to sit up straight, maintain correct posture, and reduce physical fatigue and injury caused by prolonged office work. During meetings or group discussions, to facilitate communication and movement, the distance between the desk and chair can be increased to 80 centimeters.

Modern office environment design has more detailed regulations regarding office chair distances. The standard rotation radius of an office chair is typically 600 - 750mm. When customizing office space, it is necessary to reserve at least 900mm of backward space for each seat to ensure that users can freely rotate their chairs and easily communicate or engage in other activities with colleagues around them. In open office areas, it is recommended to maintain a seat spacing of 1200 - 1500mm. This spacing ensures that employees have some private space while preventing the office area from appearing overly crowded. The height of partition screens at workstations should be controlled between 1100 - 1200mm, and the distance between the desk and the rear wall or object should be โ‰ฅ1400mm to provide sufficient space for users.

For executive independent offices, it is advisable to reserve more than 1500mm of surrounding space for genuine leather executive chairs to reflect their independence and comfort. When using wheeled chairs in conference rooms, each seat should have a width of 800mm and a row spacing of no less than 1000mm to ensure that participants have enough space to sit and move around. The armrests of ergonomic chairs should maintain a gap of 50 - 100mm from the underside of the desk to avoid interference between the armrests and the desk, which could affect the user experience.

Additionally, when setting up desks back-to-back, the reserved space in the middle should be โ‰ฅ1800mm. For side-by-side desk arrangements, the aisle in the middle should be โ‰ฅ900mm. The passageways on both sides of the office area should be โ‰ฅ1200mm, and open office passageways should be โ‰ฅ900mm (allowing two people to pass side by side and face to face). The distance between two desks should be โ‰ฅ1200mm, and the distance between file cabinets and desks should be โ‰ฅ1000mm.
