Office Chair Disposal

Admin October 12, 2026

The following methods can be referred to for disposing of office chairs:

1. Assess the Chair's Condition
First, determine whether the chair has secondary circulation value. If the height adjustment function works smoothly, the wheels rotate flexibly, the backrest is undamaged, and safety components such as the gas lift have no hidden dangers, it falls into the category of "usable". If the frame is cracked or there is a risk of air leakage or explosion in the gas lift, it should be scrapped directly. Safety is the top priority, and components with hidden dangers should not be used reluctantly.

2. Evaluate Brand and Model Value
The second-hand circulation value of branded chairs is significantly higher than that of ordinary products. For example, international brands like Herman Miller and Haworth, or well-known domestic office furniture brands, if they are in good condition (with no obvious wear and tear and complete functions), their second-hand prices may be much higher than the scrap recycling price. Before disposal, record the model information. Usually, the model identification is located at the bottom of the chair or on the armrests. Taking photos for retention can facilitate valuation and subsequent disposal.

3. Choose Local Disposal Channels
In the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, it is advisable to give priority to local recyclers. Same-city services can usually come to inspect and evaluate the goods on the same day, avoiding logistics handling losses and additional costs. Local disposal is more efficient and can reduce the risk of chair damage caused by long-distance transportation.

4. Try the "Old Chair for New Chair" Model
If new chairs need to be purchased for a new office, you can negotiate with the supplier for a "trade-in" deal. Deduct the value of the recyclable old chairs from part of the purchase price of the new chairs. This method is more cost-effective than directly selling the old chairs as scrap and then buying new ones, especially for bulk replacement scenarios.

5. Rely on Professional Recycling Institutions
Some institutions provide full-process services for branded second-hand office chairs, including recycling, cleaning and refurbishment, quality inspection, and re-circulation. Each chair undergoes a safety inspection before being put on the shelves, with accurate descriptions of its condition and support for on-site trial sitting. Professional institutions can maximize the value of old chairs while ensuring the quality and safety of re-circulated products.

6. Comply with Regulations for Scrap Disposal
For chairs that cannot be repaired or have safety hazards, they should be disassembled and recycled through formal channels. Metal components such as gas lifts should be handed over to professional waste disposal companies to avoid environmental pollution or safety risks caused by random disposal.
