Office Chair Disposal

Admin October 08, 2026

The disposal method for office chairs should be selected comprehensively based on their source, condition, and subsequent use. The specific situations can be divided into the following categories:

1. Government-scrapped office chairs: Follow the fixed asset disposal process
If the office chairs belong to government assets, it is necessary to follow the standardized process for fixed asset disposal. First, the competent equipment department should take an inventory of the scrapped furniture, confirm the quantity, model, and condition, and register them in a ledger. Subsequently, a disposal application should be submitted and approved by the deputy general manager in charge before being handed over to the government-designated renewable resource recycling company for unified disposal. This process emphasizes compliance and ensures the transparency and traceability of asset disposal.

2. Second-hand goods recycling company handling: Classified recycling or reuse
The handling of old office chairs by second-hand goods recycling companies is divided into two steps:

  • Secondary circulation or donation: Select furniture with intact functions (such as smooth lifting, flexible wheels, and undamaged backrests) for recycling through the second-hand market or donation to public welfare organizations to achieve resource reuse.
  • Renewable resource processing: Furniture with safety hazards (such as frame cracking or air pressure rod failure) or that cannot be repaired should be disassembled by the government-designated renewable resource company to recover materials such as metal and plastic, reducing environmental pollution.
Key steps: Before disposal, it is necessary to take an inventory and register with the competent equipment department and complete the disposal application and approval process.

3. Old chair disposal during individual or corporate relocation: Disposal based on condition

  • Chairs suitable for secondary circulation: Prioritize selecting chairs with complete functions (such as normal lifting, wheels, and backrests) and minor external wear. Brand chairs (such as Herman Miller and Haworth) have a high preservation rate, and their secondary circulation price may be much higher than the scrap recycling price. It is necessary to focus on evaluating functional integrity and external grade.
  • Chairs requiring disposal: Chairs with safety hazards (such as air pressure rod leakage or frame fracture) should be directly disposed of to avoid secondary use risks.
    Disposal suggestions:
  • Record information: Take photos of the chairs and record their models (usually located at the bottom or armrests) for easy valuation and subsequent disposal.
  • Local priority: In the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, it is recommended to choose local recycling, which can provide on-site inspection and valuation on the same day, reducing logistics costs and handling losses.
  • Trade-in: If new chairs need to be purchased for the new office, negotiate with the supplier for a "trade-in" deal to reduce procurement costs.

4. Special scenario handling: Brand and condition affect value
Brand office chairs (such as Herman Miller, Haworth, and well-known domestic brands) have high durability and market recognition due to their design. Even after years of use, as long as their functions are intact and their external wear is minor, their secondary circulation price may still be high. Before disposal, compare the scrap recycling price with the second-hand market price and prioritize the method with higher value.
