Office Chair Disinfection

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chair disinfection can be carried out according to the following steps, which require a combination of cleaning and disinfection operations, with attention to protection and material suitability:

I. Preparation of Items Prepare cleaning and disinfection tools in advance, including the chair, cleaning cloths (it is recommended to use different colors for different areas to reduce the risk of cross-contamination), cleaning buckets, disinfecting cloths, covered disinfection buckets, clean water, gloves, masks, and work clothes. Disinfectants can be a disinfectant solution containing 250mg/L of available chlorine or 75% alcohol. The former needs to be prepared fresh for each use, while the latter is volatile and should be stored in a sealed container.

II. Cleaning Steps

  1. Wiping Order: Follow the principle of 'from top to bottom, from the whole to the parts'. Clean the seat surface, backrest, legs, and edges of the chair (the front edge should be cleaned last) in sequence to avoid secondary contamination of the cleaned areas.
  2. Operation Details:
    • Use a 'Z-shaped' wiping method for the seat surface to ensure all crevices are covered.
    • After wiping each chair leg, flip the cloth to use a clean side to prevent residue from remaining.
    • Keep the cloth suspended during wiping to avoid touching the ground and picking up dust.
    • After cleaning, flip the cloth again and wipe from top to bottom once more to enhance the cleaning effect.

III. Disinfection Treatment

  1. Daily Cleaning: Wet wiping is the main method for daily cleaning, which can maintain basic hygiene if carried out daily.
  2. Deep Disinfection:
    • Chlorine-containing Disinfectant Solution: After spraying or wiping, let it act for 5-10 minutes. Then use a clean, damp cloth to remove any residue to prevent corrosion of the material.
    • 75% Alcohol: Spray or wipe directly. The action time is the same as above. No secondary cleaning is required, but attention should be paid to fire safety.
    • Metal Parts: Be cautious when using chlorine-containing disinfectants. Preferably use alcohol or a special metal cleaner to avoid oxidation and rusting.
    • Wooden Seat Surface: Control the amount of water used. Dry the surface as soon as possible after disinfection to prevent cracking and deformation.

IV. Precautions

  1. Protective Measures: Wear gloves, masks, and work clothes before operation to avoid direct skin contact with disinfectants.
  2. Ventilation and Drying: After disinfection, ensure the chair dries naturally in the air. Do not use hot air to dry it or expose it to direct sunlight to prevent material aging.
  3. Cloth Management: Use different colored cloths for different areas (e.g., blue for the seat surface and green for the chair legs). Cleaning and disinfecting cloths should be strictly separated and washed and disinfected separately after use.
  4. Frequency Control: Daily cleaning can be carried out daily, and deep disinfection is recommended once or twice a week, or adjusted according to the frequency of use.

Through systematic cleaning and targeted disinfection, dirt and pathogens on the surface of office chairs can be effectively removed, while also extending the service life of the furniture. During operation, strictly follow the principle of material suitability to avoid damage caused by improper selection of disinfectants.
