Office Chair Disassembly Tools

Admin October 14, 2026

When disassembling an office chair, it is necessary to prepare targeted tools according to the type of components, which can be divided into three categories: basic tools, specialized tools for pneumatic rods, and auxiliary tools. Safety regulations must be followed during operation to avoid damage to components or personal injury.

Basic tools are the core equipment for disassembling office chairs, covering common hardware such as screwdrivers and wrenches. Cross-head and flat-head screwdrivers are used to remove fixed screws on the seat surface, armrests, and other parts, and the corresponding model should be selected according to the screw specifications. Wrenches (including socket wrenches) are used to turn hexagonal nuts or bolts, such as the connectors for adjusting the backrest angle. Rubber hammers separate clips or slightly deformed parts through elastic striking, preventing the paint from peeling off due to direct striking with a metal hammer. Staple removers are specifically used to pull out U-shaped staples that fix fabric or leather, and the force should be controlled to prevent material tearing. Pry bars or plastic prying sheets are inserted into gaps to pry open clips or connectors, and the plastic material reduces scratches on plastic parts. Rags are used to wipe oil stains or dust on the surface of components, and loosening fluid is used for severely rusted screws or nuts, and operation should be carried out after waiting for 5-10 minutes after spraying.

Specialized tools are required for disassembling pneumatic rods due to their high-pressure components and precise structure. The hydraulic rod separator (pneumatic rod puller) is the core equipment, and its U-shaped slot can precisely grip the connection between the pneumatic rod and the base, separating the two through the principle of leverage. Adjustable wrenches are used to unscrew the fixed screws on the top of old-style pneumatic rods, and the wrench opening should be adjusted according to the screw diameter. Anti-slip gloves can prevent hand scratches caused by friction with metal parts during disassembly, especially when handling rusted parts. If professional tools are lacking, two old adjustable wrenches can be used alternately to pry the edge between the pneumatic rod and the base, but the force should be controlled to prevent the pneumatic rod from suddenly popping out.

Auxiliary tools can improve operational safety and efficiency. Thick cloth or wooden pads should be placed under the components to buffer the impact force during striking, preventing the pneumatic rod from popping out or plastic parts from breaking. Small flat-head screwdrivers are used to pry open stubborn clip gaps, such as separating the connection clips between the chair wheels and the five-star base. In addition, the internal pressure of the pneumatic rod should be released before disassembly (invert the chair and repeatedly press the seat surface until there is no rebound), and the chair should be fixed to prevent sliding. The striking force should be even to avoid deformation of components due to violent striking. If the pneumatic rod is aged or leaking, it is recommended to contact professionals for handling to prevent injury caused by the ejection of high-pressure gas.
