Office Chair Disassembly Methods

If you can't disassemble your office chair, you can try the following methods. Different components have different disassembly methods, and there are differences among different brands and models.

General Disassembly Methods

• Disassembly of the seat and gas lift: Raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat cushion firmly with one hand and press the height adjustment lever hard with the other hand while gently shaking it a few times to try to remove the seat from the gas lift. This method makes use of the lifting principle of the gas lift and the loose gap between components, separating them through external force.
• Disassembly of the gas lift and chair base: Place the chair base upside down and use a rubber mallet to forcefully knock out the gas lift. A rubber mallet has a certain degree of elasticity, which can reduce damage to the components while applying a relatively large impact force. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can place a wooden board underneath and then knock with another hard object. The wooden board can act as a buffer to avoid direct damage to the gas lift and chair base.

• Removing the headrest: First, pull the headrest to its highest position. Then, press down hard on the thin metal strip in the middle. Once the locking mechanism is loose, pull off the headrest forcefully. This design is usually to ensure the stability and adjustability of the headrest. It is fixed by a specific locking structure, and disassembly should be carried out according to its structural characteristics.
• Removing the armrests: Turn the chair upside down and use an Allen wrench to loosen the screws under the armrests. An Allen wrench can provide better torque, making it easier to turn the screws and separate the armrests from the rest of the chair.
• Separating the backrest base: Also use an Allen wrench to find and loosen the screws on the backrest base, thus separating the backrest base from the main body of the chair.
• Separating the five-star base and the gas spring, and the gas spring and the seat base: Use a rubber mallet to knock on the relevant parts. The vibration and impact force generated by the knocking will loosen the connections between the components, enabling separation. When knocking, pay attention to using an appropriate amount of force to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force.
