Office Chair Disassembly Guide

Admin October 10, 2026

The disassembly of an office chair requires selecting appropriate tools based on specific components and following safety regulations. Here are the common steps:

I. Disassembly of Common Screw Components

  1. Connection between the Seat Cushion and the Backrest: Turn the chair upside down and use a Phillips screwdriver or an Allen wrench to unscrew the fixing screws. If the screws are rusty, you can first drip lubricating oil (such as WD-40) to help loosen them.
  2. Armrest Disassembly: Most armrests are fixed with Allen screws. Use an Allen wrench of the corresponding size to loosen them. Some armrests may require removing the decorative cover before operation.
  3. Fixing between the Chassis and the Seat Cushion: Check the screws on the edge of the chassis and use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen them one by one. If the screws are hidden under fabric or plastic covers, uncover them first.

II. Disassembly of Components of a Swivel Office Chair

  1. Seat Separation: Use a screwdriver or a wrench to loosen the 2-4 fixing screws under the seat. Push the seat upwards with both hands to separate it from the base.
  2. Leg Frame Disassembly: Turn the chair upside down and use a wrench to loosen the nuts at the connection between the leg frame and the base. Remove the leg frame. Be sure to keep small parts such as springs or gaskets.
  3. Wheel Removal: Use a wrench or pliers to hold the large nut under the wheel axle. Twist the wheels left and right to loosen them, and then lift the chair to remove the axle part. If the wheels are stuck, spray lubricant and repeat the operation.

III. Disassembly of the Pneumatic Rod

  1. Lubrication Treatment: Apply WD-40 lubricant evenly to the joint of the pneumatic rod and wait for 1 hour for the lubricant to penetrate.
  2. Tapping or Rotating: Use a rubber mallet to tap evenly on the joint of the pneumatic rod, or use a pipe wrench to clamp the pneumatic rod and rotate it slowly until it is loose.
  3. Safety Reminder: The pneumatic rod has high internal pressure. Avoid violent tapping during disassembly to prevent parts from being ejected and causing injury.

IV. Safety Precautions

  1. Stable Operation: Place the chair on a flat surface before disassembly to avoid tipping over due to inclination.
  2. Part Storage: Small parts such as screws and nuts should be stored separately to prevent loss or confusion.
  3. Special Components: If the chair has a motor or wiring (such as an electric massage chair), cut off the power first and avoid operating in the circuit area.

Operation Suggestion: Refer to the product manual first and focus on checking easily loosened areas such as the connection between the armrest and the seat cushion and the fixing of the chassis. If excessive resistance is encountered, stop the operation immediately and check whether any screws are missed or parts are stuck.
