Office Chair Disassembly - Easy Guide

Admin October 10, 2026

Overall, disassembling an office chair is not particularly easy. Compared to assembly, it presents certain difficulties, but it can be accomplished by mastering the right methods.

Disassembling an office chair can be challenging, mainly because after prolonged use, the gas cylinder and the chair legs become tightly fastened together, making the separation of these two components a difficult task. However, by loosening the screws in the same order as they were installed, you can disassemble other parts. Here are some specific disassembly tips:

  • Separation of the seat and the gas cylinder: This is one of the more difficult parts to disassemble. Due to the long-term tight connection between the gas cylinder and the seat, disassembly requires certain skills and strength. You can first try gently rocking the seat from side to side to see if it can loosen from the gas cylinder. If rocking doesn't work well, you may need to use some auxiliary tools, such as a rubber mallet, to gently tap the connection between the seat and the gas cylinder. However, be careful with the force to avoid damaging the components.
  • Separation of the gas pressure rod and the chair legs: This is also a challenging task. When disassembling the base, first separate the backrest and then raise the gas lift to its maximum height. Hold the seat cushion with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand while rocking it a few times. In this way, by utilizing the lifting function of the gas lift and the loosening caused by rocking, it may be possible to remove the gas pressure rod from the chair legs. If the operation is not successful at once, you can repeat the action multiple times, but be sure to maintain coordinated movements to prevent component damage or personal injury due to improper force application.
  • Disassembly of other parts: For other parts of the office chair, such as the armrests and the backrest, you can disassemble them by loosening the screws in the same order as they were installed. When disassembling the screws, use an appropriate screwdriver to ensure that the screwdriver matches the screw specifications and avoid slipping. At the same time, classify and store the disassembled screws to prevent loss and facilitate subsequent installation or maintenance.
