Office Chair Disassembly Difficulty
The following methods can be used to solve the problem of difficulty in disassembling an office chair:

Disassembling the Base
If you need to separate the seat from the gas lift, first detach the backrest from the seat (skip this step if it's an integrated design). Raise the gas lift to its highest position. Hold the seat steady with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other, while gently rocking the seat. Some users have reported that the height adjustment lever needs to be pressed downward and backward: thread your arm under the seat, pull the lever backward with your hand, support the bottom of the seat with your forearm, and then rock and lift the seat upward. This method uses leverage to loosen the fasteners and is suitable for cases where the fasteners are tightly engaged after long-term use.
Disassembling the Gas Lift
The connection between the gas lift and the chair base is a common challenge. The following methods can be employed:
- Physical Tapping Method: Invert the chair base and tap the bottom of the gas lift directly with a rubber mallet. If you don't have a rubber mallet, place a piece of wood at the joint between the gas lift and the chair base and tap the wood with a regular hammer to avoid direct damage to the components.
- Lubrication Penetration Method: Apply lubricant (such as WD-40) to the joint between the gas lift and the chair base. Let it sit for 1-2 hours to allow the lubricant to penetrate the gap, then tap gently with a hammer to loosen the connection.
- Pipe Wrench Rotation Method: Use a pipe wrench to grip the top of the gas lift and rotate it to unscrew it. Apply lubricant before operation to reduce friction, but be aware that this method may cause surface wear on the gas lift and should be used as a last resort.
Disassembling Other Parts
For screw connections on parts such as the backrest and armrests, simply reverse the installation order. If the bracket is difficult to loosen due to rust, first spray metal loosening agent and wait 10-15 minutes for the rust layer to soften, then tap gently around the screws with a hammer to assist in loosening. Be careful not to apply excessive force to avoid stripping the screws, and use an electric screwdriver if necessary to improve efficiency.
Precautions
- Wear gloves before disassembly to prevent metal cuts or lubricant contamination on the skin.
- If the gas lift contains high-pressure gas, operate slowly during disassembly to avoid sudden release causing parts to eject.
- If you are unable to solve the problem on your own, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician or the manufacturer's after-sales service to prevent damage to the chair structure due to improper operation.
