Office Chair Disassembly and Packaging

Admin October 12, 2026

The disassembly and packaging of an office chair can be carried out according to the following steps:

I. Determine Whether to Disassemble

  1. Packaging without Disassembly: If the moving passageways (such as doors, elevators, and staircases) and the space in the transportation vehicle are sufficiently spacious, and the chair has a simple structure or is complex to disassemble, and the requirement for efficiency is higher than that for extreme protection, the entire chair can be directly wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and stretch wrap.
  2. Packaging after Disassembly: If the moving space is limited (such as narrow staircases, small elevators, or insufficient trunk space in a private car), or the chair is of high value and has a precise structure, requiring a reduction in the risk of deformation during transportation, or if long-distance transportation or long-term storage is needed, it is recommended to disassemble the chair before packaging. The simple decision-making process is as follows: evaluate the moving space โ†’ examine the complexity of the chair's structure โ†’ consider the value of the chair โ†’ weigh the available time. If two of the first three factors indicate a need for careful protection, it is recommended to disassemble the chair.

II. Disassembly Process

  1. Preparation: Lay the chair down on a flat and soft surface (such as a blanket), and prepare tools: a rubber mallet (to avoid damaging the paint when disassembling tight components like gas rods), a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver, and an Allen wrench.
  2. Specific Disassembly:
    • Headrest: For screw-fixed types, unscrew the screws and pull out the headrest; for button/snap-on types, press the release button or pry open the snap and then pull out. For example, for the Bekang office chair BC03Q Deluxe Edition, pull the headrest to its highest position, press down firmly on the thin metal strip in the middle, feel the locking mechanism loosen, and then pull out. If the metal strip is difficult to hold, use a discarded hard card.
    • Armrests: Distinguish between left and right (usually marked with L/R), place the chair upside down on a higher platform, and loosen the screws under the armrests with an Allen wrench.
    • Backrest: Use the Allen wrench that comes with the box to remove it.
    • Separation of the Five-Star Base and the Gas Spring: Use a rubber mallet to strike the five feet of the five-star base upwards respectively to separate them from the gas spring; then strike the base plate to separate the gas spring from the base.
    • Casters: Simply pull them out.

III. Packaging Materials and Operations

  1. Core Protective and Packaging Materials: Wrap all components with bubble wrap for cushioning and shock absorption; wrap the outer layer with stretch wrap/stretch film for fixation and to prevent dust and dirt; wrap components that are prone to scratching the paint or need to be protected from dirt (such as fabric parts) with packaging paper/old newspapers; use cardboard boxes (recommended dimensions: 60x40x50cm or 50x40x40cm) to hold the parts; lay a dust-proof bag/disposable tablecloth inside the cardboard box to prevent dust and water.
  2. Fixing and Storage Tools: Use wide tape to seal the cardboard box and fix the edges of the packaging materials; use accessory bags/sealed plastic bags to store small parts such as screws and washers; use a marker pen and label paper to mark the packaged components or accessory bags for easy identification during reassembly.
  3. Packaging Operations: Place the disassembled components (such as the base with its face down) into the cardboard box, cover the base with foam, and then place the armrests, backrest, headrest, and casters in order. Do not forget small components such as adapters, screw bags, and instruction manuals.
