Disassembly and Assembly of Office Chair Legs

Admin October 09, 2026

The methods for disassembling and assembling office chair legs are as follows:

I. Disassembling Chair Legs

  1. Conventional Disassembly Method:
    • Step on the five-star base with one foot to secure it, grasp both sides of the seat cushion with both hands, shake it left and right while pulling upwards, and repeat this action until the chair leg separates from the gas rod. This method is suitable for most ordinary snap-fit structures, achieving disassembly by shaking to break the frictional force of the snap fasteners.
    • If the gas rod and chair leg are too tightly snapped together, avoid pulling forcefully. You can invert the chair leg, place a rubber mallet or a wooden board at the connection between the gas rod and the chair leg, and gently tap to loosen the connection before disassembly.
  2. Snap Ring Structure Disassembly Method:
    • Invert the chair and observe whether there is a flat washer snap ring at the bottom of the central column. If there is a snap ring, use a tool (such as needle-nose pliers) to remove the snap ring, and then pull out the old five-star base.
    • If there is no snap ring design, use an iron hammer to gently tap the conical connection to gradually loosen the parts through vibration. Control the force during operation to avoid damaging the gas rod or chair leg.
  3. Gas Rod Assisted Disassembly Method:
    • Raise the gas pressure rod to its highest position, hold the seat cushion firmly with one hand, press the lift lever with the other hand while shaking the chair leg, and use theไผธ็ผฉๆ€ง (telescopic property, here it means theไผธ็ผฉๆ€ง of the gas rod, which can be translated as 'ไผธ็ผฉ่ƒฝๅŠ›' or simply 'ไผธ็ผฉ' in this context, but for better understanding in English, we can use 'ไผธ็ผฉๆ€ง's English equivalent concept 'ไผธ็ผฉ่ƒฝๅŠ›' translated as 'ability to extend and retract') of the gas rod to break the snap-fit structure and remove the base.
    • This method requires simultaneous operation of the lift lever and shaking action. If the snap fit is too tight, you can combine it with gentle tapping with a rubber mallet for assistance.

II. Assembling Chair Legs

  1. Caster Installation:
    • Align each caster with the mounting holes at the bottom of the chair leg and press firmly until the snap fasteners are fully embedded. Some casters need to be rotated for fixation, and operation should be carried out according to the instructions.
  2. Gas Rod Positioning:
    • Place the gas rod vertically into the central hole of the chair leg, ensuring that the rod body is not offset from the hole wall. If the gas rod comes with an anti-slip washer, install the washer first and then insert it.
  3. Component Connection:
    • After installing other components such as the base plate, seat, and backrest, connect the chair leg to the gas rod. For some designs, press the lift lever to retract the gas rod and then rotate the chair leg to complete the locking.

III. Precautions

  • When disassembling, if the gas rod and chair leg are too tightly snapped together, do not use metal tools to directly strike the gas rod to avoid damaging the internal sealing structure and causing air leakage. Prefer to use a rubber mallet or a wooden board for cushioning.
  • Keep your hands dry when operating the lift lever to avoid accidental pressing due to slipping. Control the amplitude when shaking the chair leg to prevent parts from flying out and causing injury.
  • If the chair leg is made of plastic, further reduce the tapping force to prevent cracking.
