Office Chair Disassembly Air Pump

Admin October 11, 2026

The steps for disassembling the air pump of an office chair are as follows:

First, prepare tools, including a rubber mallet, a screwdriver, and a wrench. The rubber mallet is used to tap components to loosen connections, while the screwdriver and wrench are used to disassemble screws and other fastening structures. These tools are the fundamental guarantees for completing the disassembly operation.

Next, disassemble the base. Turn the office chair upside down so that the base faces upwards. Use the rubber mallet to strike the steel ring at the bottom forcefully in a circular motion. The purpose of striking is to loosen the connection between the base and the chair body. After striking a full circle, try to pry the base. If it fails to be removed successfully, continue repeating the striking and prying actions until the base is successfully removed.

Then, remove the upper seat. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws and other components connecting the upper seat to the chair body, thereby separating the upper seat from the chair body. This step requires careful operation to avoid damaging the relevant structures of the upper seat or the chair body.

After that, disassemble the air pump (hydraulic strut). There are two common methods. Method one is to use a hammer to strike the metal chassis while holding the hydraulic strut with one hand. You can even step on it with your foot to increase the force and remove the hydraulic strut. Method two is to apply lubricant at the connection between the chair seat chassis and the air pressure rod, and between the five-claw base and the air pressure rod. After waiting for at least half an hour for penetration, when disassembling the chair seat, use a rubber mallet to strike the four corners of the chassis evenly, and then strike the outer periphery of the bottom of the air pressure rod to separate it. When striking, it is best to use a cloth as a buffer to prevent the paint on the five-claw base from peeling off or cracking.

Finally, post-processing. If the chair is leaking air and the air pump needs to be replaced, release all the air from the air pressure rod. The air pump is generally installed between the stainless steel base and the steel plate under the chair, and it can be removed from either side. First, remove the seat cushion, then move the star-shaped frame and remove it. Pull off the nut to take out the air rod, and install a new air pump. After replacement, reassemble all the components in the reverse order of disassembly and test whether the chair is still leaking air to ensure that the chair can be used normally after replacing the air pump.
