Disassembly of Office Chairs
Disassembling an office chair can be challenging, and it is not recommended unless necessary. If disassembly is required, refer to the following steps and pay attention to safety.

An office chair generally consists of parts such as chair legs, casters, a base, a seat, a gas lift, a backrest, armrests, and a headrest. Disassembly is more difficult than assembly, primarily because the gas lift and chair legs become tightly fastened after prolonged use. The two most challenging parts to disassemble are the separation of the seat from the gas lift and the separation of the gas lift from the chair legs.
Here are the specific disassembly steps:
- Disassembling the Base: First, separate the backrest. This usually involves locating the screws at the connection point between the backrest and the seat, loosening them with the appropriate tool, and removing them to detach the backrest from the seat. Next, raise the gas lift to its highest position to loosen the connection between the gas lift and the seat. Then, firmly grasp the seat cushion with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other while gently shaking it several times. Through this operation, utilizing the lifting function of the gas lift and the loosening effect of the shaking, you can remove the base from the gas lift.
- Removing the Gas Lift: After separating the base from the gas lift, invert the chair legs. At this point, to remove the gas lift from the chair legs, it is best to use a rubber mallet for tapping. The elasticity of the rubber mallet reduces damage to the gas lift and chair legs. Through rhythmic tapping, the gas lift will gradually loosen and come out of the chair legs. If you do not have a rubber mallet, you can place a piece of wood underneath and use another suitable tool for tapping, which can also achieve the goal of removing the gas lift.
During the disassembly process of an office chair, pay special attention to safety. Since the gas lift and chair legs are tightly fastened, significant force may be required for disassembly. Avoid tools slipping or parts popping out and injuring yourself due to excessive force. Additionally, it is advisable to understand the structure of the office chair and the connection methods of its components before starting the operation to ensure a smooth disassembly process.
