Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 09, 2026

The method for disassembling an office chair should be selected based on its specific model and structure. Some models can be disassembled with simple operations, while for complex structures, it is recommended to refer to the official tutorial or seek professional help.

I. General Disassembly Approach (Without Professional Tools)

Some office chairs are designed to allow users to perform basic disassembly without professional tools, such as removing the seat cushion, armrests, and other detachable components. However, such tutorials usually do not provide detailed steps, and operations need to be attempted based on the actual structure of the chair. The core principle is to observe the structural features of the connection points, such as snaps, screws, or pins, and release the fastening by pressing, sliding, or rotating. For example, if the seat cushion is connected to the chair frame with snaps, try pressing the snaps with both hands simultaneously and pulling the cushion outward; if the armrest is fixed with screws, first locate the screw positions and loosen them with a screwdriver (if simple tools are allowed).

II. Disassembly of the Base of an Ergonomic Computer Chair (Refer to Specific Model)

The disassembly of the base (including the gas lift, wheels, etc.) of an ergonomic computer chair usually involves more complex structures. Some models provide complete disassembly demonstrations, but the steps are not detailed. The following points should be noted for general operations:

  1. Lay the chair down: Turn the chair upside down so that the base faces upward, facilitating observation and operation of the connection points.
  2. Release the gas lift fastening: The connection between the gas lift and the chair frame may be fixed with a snap ring or threads. If it is a snap ring, use a tool (such as a rubber mallet) to gently tap the snap ring to loosen it; if it is threaded, rotate the gas lift counterclockwise (some models may require a special wrench).
  3. Remove the wheels: The wheels are usually fixed with pins or threads and can be directly pulled out or unscrewed by rotating.
Note: Before operation, confirm whether the chair supports user self-disassembly of the base to avoid damaging the gas lift or the chair frame structure.

III. Special Disassembly Tutorial for the Okamura Sylphy Model

The disassembly steps for this model are clear and applicable to seat cushion disassembly:

  1. Lay the chair down: Place the chair flat to ensure sufficient operating space.
  2. Adjust the seat depth: Slide the seat cushion to its maximum position to expose the snaps on both sides.
  3. Remove the seat cushion: Locate the snaps on both sides of the seat cushion (usually indicated by arrows), press both snaps simultaneously with both hands, and slide the cushion forward to detach it from the chair frame.
Tip: Reverse the operations for installation, and ensure that the snaps are fully reset to avoid looseness.

IV. Precautions

  1. Safety first: Clear the surrounding items before disassembly to prevent the chair from tipping over or parts from falling and causing injury.
  2. Keep the parts: The small parts such as screws and snaps removed during disassembly should be properly kept to prevent loss.
  3. Be cautious with complex structures: If core components such as the gas lift and chair back are involved, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional repair person to avoid chair damage or safety hazards due to improper operation.
