Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 08, 2026

Office chairs can be disassembled, but it is more difficult than assembly. Caution should be exercised during the process, and safety should be a top priority. It is not recommended to disassemble unless absolutely necessary.

Office chairs typically consist of components such as chair legs, casters, bases, seats, gas cylinders, backrests, armrests, and headrests. When disassembling, it is generally advisable to follow the reverse order of assembly, gradually loosening the screws. However, due to prolonged use, the gas cylinder and chair legs may become tightly friction-fitted, posing a major challenge during disassembly. Additionally, separating the seat from the gas cylinder can also be difficult.

Specific disassembly steps are as follows:

  1. Backrest Separation: First, separate the backrest from the seat. This usually involves locating the screws connecting the backrest and seat, using an appropriate tool (such as a screwdriver) to loosen and remove them, thereby detaching the backrest from the seat.
  2. Seat and Gas Cylinder Separation: This is one of the more challenging steps. First, raise the gas cylinder to its highest position. Then, firmly grasp the seat cushion with one hand and press the height adjustment lever with the other hand while gently rocking the seat several times. This method attempts to remove the seat from the gas cylinder. During the operation, be mindful of applying moderate force to avoid damaging the components or injuring yourself due to excessive force.
  3. Gas Cylinder and Chair Leg Separation: After separating the base from the gas cylinder, invert the chair legs. To safely and effectively remove the gas cylinder, it is best to use a rubber mallet to gently tap the gas cylinder, causing it to loosen and be removed from the chair legs. If a rubber mallet is not available, place a piece of wood on the gas cylinder and tap the wood with another suitable tool. This indirect tapping method helps avoid direct damage to the gas cylinder or chair legs.
