Disassembly of Office Chair

Admin October 08, 2026

When disassembling an office chair, it is necessary to first identify the type of chair, prepare the corresponding tools, operate in the order of the structure, and pay attention to safety to avoid damaging components or getting injured. The common disassembly steps are as follows:

First, Preparation and Chair Placement: Before starting to disassemble the office chair, identify its specific type, as different types of office chairs may have structural differences that affect the disassembly steps and tool selection. Prepare appropriate tools, commonly including screwdrivers (both Phillips and flat-head), Allen wrenches, and rubber mallets. Place the chair upside down on the ground steadily, ensuring there are no hard objects around to prevent damage to components during disassembly and to provide sufficient space for operation.

Second, Removing the Seat Cushion, Backrest, and Armrests: Locate the screws connecting the seat cushion and backrest, and use the appropriate screwdriver to unscrew them one by one. When unscrewing, pay attention to applying moderate force to avoid stripping the screws. Most armrests are fixed with Allen screws, so use an Allen wrench to remove the fixing screws of the armrests. When removing these screws, follow a certain order, generally from top to bottom or from outside to inside, to make the disassembly process more orderly and facilitate subsequent assembly.

Finally, Handling the Gas Cylinder Part: The base and gas cylinder of an office chair are usually an interference fit and cannot be pulled directly, as this may easily damage the gas cylinder or cause it to pop out and injure someone. You can use a rubber mallet to gently tap the side of the joint between the base and the seat cushion to gradually separate them through vibration. In addition, there are other methods for disassembling the seat gas cylinder, such as manual disassembly (suitable for chairs with a relatively simple structure and a loosely connected gas cylinder) and using a rubber mallet to strike forcefully (but this method should be used with caution to avoid excessive damage to the chair). When disassembling the gas cylinder, ensure the surrounding environment is safe and personnel are away from components that may pop out.
