Office Chair Disassembly

Admin October 16, 2026

The disassembly of an office swivel chair can be carried out according to the following steps. Ensure safety and follow the correct methods during operation:

I. Preparation before Disassembly

  1. Tool Preparation: Prepare tools such as a rubber mallet (or a wooden board), screwdrivers, and wrenches for loosening screws or striking components.
  2. Environment Inspection: Choose a flat and open area for operation to prevent damage to the floor or components from rolling when the chair legs are inverted.
  3. Component Identification: Clearly understand the structure of the office chair, including the chair legs, casters, base, seat, gas lift, backrest, armrests, and headrest, to facilitate targeted disassembly.

II. Specific Disassembly Steps

  1. Backrest Separation

    • Observe the connection method between the backrest and the seat (usually screw-fixed or snap-fit).
    • If it is screw-fixed, use a screwdriver to turn the screws counterclockwise to separate the backrest from the seat; if it is a snap-fit, gently press the snaps or use a tool to pry them to separate the two.
  2. Base Removal

    • Raise the gas lift to its highest position to increase the operating space.
    • Hold the seat firmly with one hand and press the height adjustment lever (usually located under the seat) with the other hand while rocking the seat left and right to gradually loosen and separate the base from the gas lift.
  3. Gas Lift Removal

    • Invert the chair legs so that the gas lift points upwards.
    • Strike the edge of the gas lift with a rubber mallet (avoid striking the center directly) or place a wooden board between the gas lift and the chair legs and then strike the board forcefully to remove the gas lift from the chair legs. If the gas lift and the chair legs are tightly fastened, strike lightly multiple times or increase the force appropriately, but control the amplitude to prevent damage to the components.
  4. Removal of Other Parts

    • Armrests and Headrest: If they are screw-fixed, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws and then remove them; if they are snap-fit, press the snaps or pry them to separate.
    • Casters: Some casters are fixed to the chair legs with screws. Loosen the screws to remove them; some are directly inserted, and can be removed by pulling them out forcefully.
    • Base Plate: The base plate is usually connected to the seat. Loosen the fixing screws to separate them.

III. Precautions

  1. Safety First: The gas lift and chair legs that have been used for a long time may be tightly fastened. Wear gloves during disassembly to avoid scratches or finger injuries from being hit.
  2. Force Control: When striking the gas lift, prefer a rubber mallet or a wooden board for cushioning to prevent direct striking from deforming the gas lift or damaging the chair legs.
  3. Sequence Recording: Take photos to record the connection methods of various components during disassembly for reference during subsequent assembly.
  4. Component Storage: Store small parts such as screws and snaps separately to avoid loss.
