Office Chair Dimensions (Wood)
The common dimensional parameters of wooden office chairs are as follows, with each part designed with ergonomics and comfort as the core criteria:

Seat width is a key indicator affecting lateral movement space. For armless chairs, the seat width should be โฅ380mm to ensure natural placement of the buttocks; for chairs with armrests, the seat width is usually โฅ460mm to avoid squeezing between the arms and armrests. The seat width of conventional models is concentrated in the range of 480-540mm, which can meet the needs of over 90% of people with different body types. Those with wider body types are recommended to choose sizes above 520mm.
Seat height needs to be adapted to the leg postures of people of different heights. The standard range is 410-430mm, at which the knees are bent at a 90-degree angle and the feet can be placed flat on the ground. For people shorter than 160cm or children, a low seat height design of 390-410mm can be selected. A seat height that is too low will cause the legs to hang in the air, while a seat height that is too high will compress the blood vessels and nerves at the back of the thighs.
Backrest height directly affects the back support effect. The conventional design is 410-420mm, which can cover the area from the scapula to the lumbar spine; some simple models have a backrest height of 390-400mm, only supporting the lumbar spine. If neck support is required, an office chair with a headrest should be selected, and its total height can reach over 600mm.
Seat depth needs to balance buttock support and back fit. The standard range is 400-420mm, suitable for people with a height of 170-185cm; for those with a petite body type (such as women), it is recommended to choose 380-400mm to avoid a backrest that is too large and causes the back to hang in the air; those with a sturdy build can choose a 450mm deepened seat surface, but it should be used in combination with an adjustable lumbar support.
Backrest width needs to cover the entire range of back movement. The standard value is 400-420mm, and some widened designs can reach 424mm to ensure that the back is still supported when lying on the side or twisting. The optimal backrest inclination angle is 98ยฐ-102ยฐ, which can disperse spinal pressure, and when combined with a dynamic adjustment function, it can further reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting.
Seat surface shape parameters: the front width is usually 400-420mm to adapt to the width of the front of the buttocks; the rear width is 380-400mm, forming a trapezoidal structure that is wider at the front and narrower at the rear, which not only ensures seating comfort but also avoids material waste at the back. Some high-end models adopt a saddle-shaped seat surface, which guides the correct sitting posture through the difference in width between the front and the back.
