Office Chair Difficult to Disassemble

Admin October 16, 2026

Although disassembling an office chair can be somewhat challenging, it can be accomplished smoothly once you master the method. Most ordinary assembled office chairs for home use can be disassembled in just over ten minutes by following the reverse assembly sequence.

The main difficulty in disassembling an office chair lies in the fact that after prolonged use, the air rod and the chair legs are tightly fastened together, making it hard to separate the chair seat from the air rod and the air pressure rod from the chair legs. However, the disassembly methods vary for different types of office chairs.

For assembled office chairs that we come across frequently in daily life, they are generally fixed with screws or buckles. Before disassembly, prepare the corresponding tools, such as screwdrivers and wrenches. Then, proceed step by step in the reverse order of assembly. First, remove the screws or buckles on the chair seat to separate the seat from the chair frame. Next, disassemble the chair back, which is usually also fixed with screws or buckles, and take it off the chair frame. Finally, deal with the chair legs and the air rod.

There are specific methods for the difficult-to-disassemble parts. When disassembling the base, first separate the chair back, then raise the air pressure rod to its maximum height. Hold the seat cushion with one hand and press the lifting lever with the other hand while shaking it several times. This will allow you to remove the base. When disassembling the air pressure rod, turn the chair legs upside down and knock it out with a rubber mallet. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can place a wooden board underneath and then knock to avoid directly damaging the chair legs or the air pressure rod.

If the frame of the office chair is severely rusted, you can spray some loosening agent before disassembly to loosen the rust. This will make it easier to knock or disassemble. During the disassembly process, pay attention to applying an appropriate amount of force to avoid damaging the components or injuring yourself due to excessive force. At the same time, arrange the disassembled components neatly by category to facilitate subsequent assembly or handling.
