Office Chair Design Requirements

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair design must meet various requirements including dimensions, materials, performance, environmental protection, and modularity.

Dimensional Parameters must precisely fit ergonomics: The seat height should range from 35 to 50 cm, with a depth of 30 to 40 cm and a backward tilt of less than 5ยฐ. The seat height adjustment range should be 38 to 53 cm to accommodate 90% of the population, and the seat depth should have at least three adjustment levels (15 to 25 cm). The backrest height should range from 46 to 61 cm, with a tilt angle of 103ยฐ to 112ยฐ. The back curvature should conform to the S-shape of the spine, with lumbar support (L3-L4 region) protruding by 4 to 6 cm to cover more than 70% of the back. The armrest height should be 21 to 22 cm, supporting height adjustments of 5 to 10 cm and angle adjustments of more than 15ยฐ to ensure a 15ยฐ to 30ยฐ angle between the forearms and the desktop.

Material Selection should balance comfort and durability: The seat cushion should use high-resilience cold-foamed polyurethane with a density of โ‰ฅ55 kg/mยณ, with a breathable mesh fabric on the back featuring a pore size of โ‰ค1.5 mm. The chair frame materials fall into three categories: aluminum alloy for lightweight and corrosion resistance, suitable for mobile scenarios; steel for high strength, suitable for fixed workstations; and engineering plastics for adjustment mechanism casings and connectors. The fabric layer should preferably be breathable mesh or velvet, meeting requirements for moisture permeability and abrasion resistance.

Performance Requirements must pass rigorous testing: Dynamic support should use TรœV-certified Class-4 pneumatic rods, with nylon supports having a diameter of โ‰ฅ6 cm for the chair base and wheels passing 100,000 rolling tests. Structural safety should comply with the EN 1335 standard, with a load-bearing capacity of โ‰ฅ150 kg. The pneumatic rod should pass 100,000 lifting and lowering tests, with static tests simulating the impact of sitting down and dynamic tests simulating repeated standing up and backrest tilting. Stability requires the chair base diameter and wheelbase to conform to a 1:1.8 golden ratio, with stability maintained when leaning back 30ยฐ. Tests should cover critical states such as forward, side, and backward tilting. Durability should pass the EN 1335-1 accelerated test, simulating years of wear, such as tens of thousands of loading cycles on the seat to check for foam compression deformation and seam cracking.

Other Requirements should emphasize environmental protection and modularity: Formaldehyde emissions from panels and fabrics should be controlled within limits, and metal surface coatings should pass salt spray tests. Components such as headrests and armrests should support individual replacement to extend product lifespan.
