Office Chair Design Red Dot

Admin October 11, 2026

The office chair designs in the Red Dot Award reflect the development of design, technology, and materials, as well as socio-cultural changes. The Red Dot Award is an international creative design award originating from Germany. Along with Germany's 'iF Award' and the United States' 'IDEA Award', it is recognized as one of the world's top three design awards. Over the years, office chair designs have been featured in the Red Dot Award.

Some of the 2024 award-winning works:

  • Gala Pure ECO Chair: Manufactured by Andreu World S.L. Its design focuses on ergonomics and sustainability. The backrest, seat, and armrests are made of 100% recycled and recyclable thermopolymers, manufactured through injection molding, featuring a curved shape that provides a comfortable sitting experience for users. Moreover, this material is sturdy and can be produced in various colors to meet different aesthetic needs. Additionally, the chair can be easily stacked, effectively saving space and making it suitable for use in environments with limited space, such as offices.
  • CIAO Chair: Produced by CERANTOLA S.p.A. It is designed to be stackable, featuring gentle curved lines that create a comfortable seat and armrests. Its uniqueness lies in its screw-free modular design, which allows the chair to be easily converted into a cantilever chair or a swivel chair, enhancing its functionality and flexibility to better adapt to different office scenarios and needs.

Historical classic award-winning work: The Aluminium Chair EA 119 from 1958 saw Charles and Ray Eames innovate in the chair's construction. They used elastic fabric or leather stretched between two horizontal aluminum side ribs to give the chair its shape and stability. They also introduced aluminum castings, utilizing pneumatic springs along with adjustable tilt mechanisms and five-star base casters to allow infinite adjustment of the seat height. This design demonstrated how intelligent design could combine modern technology with high-quality materials, opening up new paths for office chair design and having a profound impact on the subsequent development of office chairs.
