Depreciation Years of Office Chairs

Admin October 22, 2026

The statutory depreciation period for office chairs in enterprises is usually 5 years, while for government units, it is no less than 15 years. The actual depreciation period may vary depending on usage conditions.

Depreciation Period of Office Chairs in Enterprises

According to Article 60 of the Implementation Regulations of the Enterprise Income Tax Law, the statutory depreciation period for office furniture in enterprises is clearly defined as 5 years. This regulation applies to most enterprises and aims to provide a unified depreciation calculation standard for enterprises, facilitating tax treatment and financial accounting. However, in actual use, the depreciation period of office chairs may vary due to multiple factors. For example, high-end office chairs such as ergonomic chairs, due to their complex design and special materials, may experience damage such as collapse after only 3 years of normal use, resulting in an actual service life shorter than the statutory depreciation period. In such cases, enterprises need to file the reasons for 'early retirement' with relevant departments for reasonable tax treatment and asset disposal.

Depreciation Period of Office Chairs in Government Units

Unlike enterprises, government units determine depreciation periods in accordance with the provisions of Government Accounting Standard No. 3. According to this standard, the depreciation period for furniture in government units shall be no less than 15 years. This regulation reflects the long-term and stable requirements of government units in asset management, aiming to ensure the rational utilization and long-term preservation of public resources. When selecting office chairs, government units usually place greater emphasis on durability and quality to meet long-term usage needs.

Factors Affecting the Actual Depreciation Period

In addition to the statutory depreciation period, the actual depreciation period of office chairs is also influenced by multiple factors. For example, the frequency of use, maintenance and upkeep, and usage environment of office chairs all have a significant impact on their service life. If office chairs are used frequently and lack necessary maintenance and upkeep, their service life may be greatly shortened; conversely, if they are properly maintained and cared for, their service life may be extended.
